I ordered an Eaton Posi from the local speedshop but his supplier was sold out so they sent me the Auburn Pro-Series Limited Slip. The Auburn unit was listed as $100 dollars more but they gave it to me for the same price. I have a 12 bolt rear end and will be installing 3.73's.

Anyone have experience with one?

Should I return the Auburn and get the Eaton?

I have the Auburn pro and I LOVE it. Lotsa folks will talk about how the unit isnt rebuildable (uses a cone drive as opposed to a clutch pack), which it isnt. However, I spent quite a while working at the best drive line shop in Las Vegas and they consistently recommend auburn. Auburn has a replacement program in which you send them your broken unit and they send you a new one (I cant tell you the price of this, call them).

From all that I have heard, the Auburn pro will greatly outlast the Eaton. Mine has spent a lot of time launching on 14.50 inch slicks without a complaint.

I went with the auburn pro in mine based off many recomendations from folks who know..... Obviously I have nothing to report since my truck is not on the road as of yet....

I have the Auburn differential in one of my 1/2 ton two wheel drive trucks with 3:07 ratio. I think it was the lesser series as I am just a jaunt around town and now and then go fishing with it kind of old truck driver.
I really like that it doesnt chatter or act like a positraction under normal driving but seems to give traction to both wheels when I am on a slick boat ramp or trying to enter a busy road without lighting up the right rear tire.
Nothing to install! Remove the old unit, and swap the ring gear onto the new unit. I'd buy and press on new bearings though.
Someone told me the new material used on the clutches of the Eaton units are not prone to chatter either for what it is worth.

I have had a Auburn Posi in my 72 350 automatic for about 3 years and no chatter or whinning. I am running 3:48 rear gears

glad to see you guys are all happy with Auburn. A few years ago on the board I seemed to be the only one who liked em'. Im sure some Eaton lovers will come in here soon enough

I just sold my Blazer this summer.I had the Auburn in there since`99 and ran 12.50/33s on 10" rims.No disappointments here.

I took the differential to a guy in town who was highly recomended. He originally quoted $110 for the install, but now I'm having him swap guts from a 67' axle into the 71' axle so I won't need the axles re-drilled. He's also replacing the bushings in the control arms and track bar. I'll let you know the total bill. Thanks for the replies!

I bought an intall kit with the unit. It has all new shims, bearings, and hardware.

I had an Auburn on the 3.73 12-Bolt rear in my '67 K/10 Suburban. I liked it. I have Eaton's in the rear ends of my '68 C/10 [transplant] and '71 Jimmy [factory]. I'd be hard pressed to notice any difference between the makes.

I ran that unit for years in my old Camaro. Also my friend had one in his '83 Monty. It was a 7.5" differential and he sprayed the hell out of it for over a year and his daily driver. Both lasted with no problems

I've had both Auburn and Eaton. Couldn't really tell the difference but I've never severely tested either. Sometimes the Auburn made a slight thud noise when slowing down. If this happens, add a little extra conditioner and the noise will go away.

I replaced the factory grenade locker in my 2000 Chevy 1/2 ton with an Auburn after I, well, grenaded it. I was running 4.56 gears and 35's. My brother-in-law has the truck now. Still has the Auburn in it, with no issues after 8 years.
