steering column ujoint question -
Does anyone know if the joint that connects the upper and lower steering shafts can be replaced with a more modern u-joint, and where I could get one? I noticed in this column I got from the junkyard that the inside of the collar where it mates to the shaft is worn smooth in places, and I woud rather replace it with something newer.

Re: steering column ujoint question -
Anyone? I know Borgeson makes the couplers, but all I've seen are guys that have switched over 4WD, not the 2WD. Also, that joint is not collapsable and I'm wondering if it would affect the feel of the steering. Has anyone done this switch?

Re: steering column ujoint question -
Dan, I can't answer but,the lower end of that lower shaft connects to the rag joint. This means you would have a u-joint at one end and a soft joint at another.I'm thinking that this might cause binding.I say again,I don't know but that is what popped into my head when I saw it.
It looks like it worked for someone in your pic though. And there may not be any bind like I'm thinking. It may just be my overly cautious mind.I really try to think of any and every thing when it comes to steering and brakes.

Re: steering column ujoint question -
There is a thread where somebody put that u-joint in the middle, and also replaced the rag joint with another u-joint. But it was 4 wheel drive and he had a body lift. He didn't seem to have any problems. I can't decide what to do, whether to stay with stock, or change to the u-joint.
