10 gauge speaker wire for 2 12" subs.

I just built a center console sub box (will post pics when the upholsterer is done with it), that will hold 2 12's that will be powered by an 800 watt mono. My question is, is it ok to run 1 10 gauge speaker wire from the amp to the connector on the box, then run 2 off the back of the connector to the subs? Will that 1 speaker wire coming from the amp to the box be able to handle it? Thanks in advance.

that will work fine.....as long as your not 20ft

The 10 guage should work fine but you will need to verify the resitance coming from the speakers do not over load your amp. Lets assume your subs provide a 4 ohm load by themselves, so depening on how you wire the subs together you could get an 8 ohm load or a 2 ohm load at the amp. If the subs are a 2 ohm resistance you could get a 4 or 1 ohm resistance at the amp. You will need to verify your amp can handle this load. If your not sure just list your subs and amp and we can verify them for you.

I don't see how the wire would be a load issue though, how the box is wired internaly could have a huge impact on load. Higher impedance means less load. Load is the total current that actually flows in the circuit.

Overheating and clipping is caused by excess load which is frequently the result of running low impedance speakers in parallel on amps that don't have the capacity to handle that much current.
