c notch on a stock frame

hello, Im new at this restoring thing I bought a 70 snb truck about 4 yrs ago and have desided to start a frame off resto, how ever I have never been this deep into a project before, so here is what I have done to the frame so far...
I bought a 4/6 drop from Early Classic, a 5 hole disk conversion with 2.5 drop spidles, I have been told that i will need to notch the rear frame, so i went to my uncles weld shop and found some scrap 6 inch oil field pipe to weldinto the frame, but I have now Idea just were to make the cut. So this is what i have done in an effort to estimate the spot to cut... I took the springs out of the rear and with the rear end still bolted to the trailing arms, I allowed the frame to rest on the axle tubes and scrabed a line on either side of the tube on the frame... So my question is will this be a reasonable place to make the cut? Any and all help will be welcomed

You don't need a C notch with 6" of drop in rear ....

Although its debateable Id say ya need one....my 67 daily driver bottoms out with a 6 inch rear coil....almost daily. Not only do you need a notch...it would not a bad idea to run an adjustable pan hard bar....EDIT My 67 is a LWB and i baught my drop kit from McCoughys....they are one of the best for static drop kits for 67-72s........

+1 An adjustable panhard bar is a good idea, as well you should consider moving your panhard mount to keep the bar as level as possible, this will minimise deflection in your suspension as much as possible keeping your truck from acting erratic when you hit bumps. This would also be known as experinceing "bump steer"

I guess Shane i am thinking from a LWB experiance...im not shure of the added weight a lwb is from a swb ..but from the 3-4 trucks that i have lowered with coils (all of which were lwb.s) they all needed a C-notch.....that is with a 6 inch coil...drop....not trying to step on any ones toes....im just trying to help the dude.....Sorry Shane if it came off wrong.....

I would say yes you need one, I lowered mine 6ish inches and its about 3 inches from the frame...

To answer your question, yes (as bglad420 said) that is where your housing would hit if it bottomed out so that is where the pipe would weld in.

no no no .... I didn't take it that way at all ... it's all good. That's the funny thing about the internet, someone can type something and not think anything about what he's typing and someone else read it totally different. I'm sorry if I came across as being offended ... I wasn't ... we are definitely coo!

Anywhoo ... I've had good luck with the 4/6 ECE kit (springs, spindles, shocks & relocators, and super trac bar) without a notch on a couple of SWB (2 different trucks - 1 mine the other a friends). You are probably right about the LWB having additional weight and needing one, I've never worked on one so I can't say one way or the other.

I just learned this, if you are interested in running a "Super Trackbar" on the rear
you will need 4" springs and 2" blocks cause the bar will interfear w/ the c-notch.
