Re: 700R4 Questions

I would not use a toggle to switch the tcc on and off. Most of the kits use a brake switch to turn the tcc off and are wired internally to turn the tcc on in 4th gear. (A toggle switch would be an add-on used for towing only.)

In other words, If you aren't towing anything heavy, you don't need any switches and the transmission will shift through all 4 of it's gears normally and the tcc will engage and disengage automatically.

This website has a lot of good info on what you are asking:

I may be wrong, but I think flywheel can stay, but the TC will need to be swapped out.

Re: 700R4 Questions

Most of the time you will need to have the drive shaft shortend about 3 inches. I believe you can re-use the flywheel or flexplate. The first series 700R4s had a few problems but when re-built and offered for sale most of them have been updated so I wouldn't worry about this if buying a rebuilt unit. Usually the crossmember has to be moved back some. or replace with a pre-fabed piece depends on the truck model/year.

4wd! I was wondering how a TH700R4 would hook up to a transfer case myself. I haven't read anything on this before.

I do not have any experience with installing a 700R4 but plan on putting one in my 64 before to long.

I would do a search in the "Engine and Drivetrain" section for more info. There are a bunch of guys that have done this already on various model year GM trucks.
