Removing Windshield Wiper Arms

Arguably the toughest piece on the truck to take off!!! Anyways how many different ways of removing them are there??? On my wipers there is a little clip underneath the arm but when its open the arm will not budge....am i missing something?

Re: Removing Windshield Wiper Arms

Hey man I just took mine off the other day. What I did was pull back that little clip and then stuck a punch in there to hold it open then I used a slide hammer puller to gently pull it out. It worked great and it didn't mess up the teeth on the gears.

Re: Removing Windshield Wiper Arms

yup - been there - done that...you can go to an autoparts store and buy a special tool to do this - or if you don't want to spend the $ - you can do it with stuff you likely already have...

I used the following items:

1. clean towel - to lay over cowl (to prevent damage)
2. 2x4 scrap wood piece from garage - for leverage
3. crow bar, pry bar, large screwdriver or tire iron - for prying

Lay the towel down on the cowl so that it covers the area where the board would sit on the cowl.

Take the wood and place it near the bottom of the wiper arm.

Now using the wood as a leverage point - pry up the bottom of the wiper arm away from the cowl area - it only takes once to realize how much force that you need to exert to do it...

I was afraid of breaking the wiper shaft, the arm, etc. - I took mine off without issue (nothing was damaged) so that I could clean out the cowl and put a screen under it...

**disclaimer** - this is how I removed it - if damage should occur by using this method - I am not responsible - just covering my butt...

Good luck.
