What the heck happened!?

I installed another(OEM) steering wheel last Friday. No problems, horn worked, looked great.
Last night at 11:30pm I wake up to the horn going off like someone is holding it down. I run outside, push on the horn button, pull the horn button off and it keeps going. I finally had to pull the wire on the relay. Do you think I tightened the stuff too tight under the button or do you think the relay went bad? I just thought it was wierd, because it was fine for a few days.

Re: What the heck happened!?

IMO.... the stuff is too tight under the button.

BUT, when I bought my 71 long ago. I had to take the battery cable off every time I parked it. PO had the horn go off on him and he ripped the wires off the horn it self. I finally figured out my horn relay was basically stuck on. I pulled that plug and never had to disconnect the battery again. I have a new relay now. Horn works fine.

I bet it's the relay

Oh, it wasn’t the relay.... It was the stuff under the button. I took the relay from another truck and it did the same thing.

IT'S THE BUTTON

Not yelling... just rambling

Re: What the heck happened!?

You can test the relay with with an ohmmeter and find out for sure if that was the cause

Re: What the heck happened!?

Well I relieved the three screws and plugged it back into the relay. Seems to have worked, we'll see how she does tonight. Sleep tight neighbors...

The movie "Christine" came to mind.

You should post this in the thread about security systems for our old trucks!! Just have the horn blow randomly, that'll keep the thieves away!!

I think an alarm system like that would either lead to a heart attack or spastic colon. I didn't know what the heck was going on, let alone where my keys were.

Re: What the heck happened!?

I pulled my relay. Everytime I turned the wheel right the horn would go off! I plan on fixing it when I change out the cabs.
