Question Mutha Thumpr CAM

anybody tried comp cams thumpr series cams? just wanted to know how it performed and sounded. i am running a small block.

I am building motor and have one to put in it, but not running yet. Hoping for the best though.

Check out http://www.compcams.com/Thumpr/default.asp they have some information and some sound clips. They even have a video of a dino pull.

That's a great idea, but something sounds weird with them to me. Sounds fake or just different. Give me a good old fashioned nasty solid and that music to me.

I dunno what kinda RPM they have the idle set to, but it seems kinda high to me

My black truck thumped better than that... Just my .02

The Thumprs are basically a cam with longer duration than you'd typically see with the amount of lift and advance. It creates a cam with a lot of overlap, which is where the "rumpty" sound comes from, without having to live with a really radical cam.

Overall, you're giving up gas milage and some driveability for a lopey sound - but you don't end up with a complete dog at low RPM from over-camming.

I am going to run one of the big mutha thumprs in my 383. it will be built on a vortec 350 block with a set of Holley aluminum heads. They sound wicked, but any big cam sounds like that. I am going to use it simply because they have a roller for my OEM block.

my motor will be a 383 stroker also, any other cams u guys recommend? i want the truck to have a nice lope to it but i don't want to kill my gas mileage, even though i will be running a 700r tranny.
