Question Dumb front crossmember question

For the 67-87 front crossmembers, I can literally take out the fourteen bolts - three on each bottom side of framerail, four on the each inner side of framerail - and just roll the whole thing out of the way while it's still bolted to the control arms, springs, wheels, brakes, all attached, without any problems or dangers, right?

I can't see why this wouldn't be possible, but thought it would be a good idea to ask first. It looks like the springs aren't going to push things around too much, but ... better safe than sorry, finding out the hard way!

I believe your right. I haven't done it but taken it all apart and long as no lines are connected like brake lines you should be able to.

Yes you can remove the entire thing as an assembly, no problem.

You will need to separate the tie-rods or pitman and idler arms too, but yeah, it can be done that way. It will be HEAVY...

Re: Dumb front crossmember question

Tie rods are off, along with center link. I just need to remove the rubber brake lines where they meet the hard lines at the framerail (and the clips holding the hardlines to the xmember, IIRC). For the sake of safety, just wanted to make sure nothing would come flying back up in my face when I unbolted it, with springs under pressure, et al.

I just want to be able to take the front end, use a bar to keep the wheels straight, and roll it somewhere else in the garage. I have a hoist if needed, but what I don't usually have is an extra pair of hands willing to get dirty :\

Re: Dumb front crossmember question

I did when I put a 79 front clip in a 64. Itas not that hard but its harder to roll than what you would think. But I also left the whole steering unit pump and all on it. I just unbolted everything and jacked the rest of the truck up out of the crossmember.

Re: Dumb front crossmember question

I did this a while back. There was no front clip on the truck but the cab was there. You will have to watch the brake lines clipped to the backside of the crossmember. And bagged69c10 is right, it's harder to roll around than you might think.
