Test drive

Well, I went out for the first test drive in my 61 4x4 since I put it back together. It has the 700 r4 from a 84 k-10 chevy wth the newer transfer case. The 700r4 is awesome!! Should save some gas with the overdrive!! The 283 ran excellent!!! Well, I didn't put a new sending unit in the tank yet. Needless to say I was on the side of the road calling my wife to bring me some gas!!! Yeah, that sucked the big one! Anyways, filled it up and continued on my drive!!

Re: Test drive

Great stuff! Amazing how easy it is to overlook the simple stuff (gas) when you're excited...

Thumbs up Re: Test drive

.........nice job; always rewarding when its successful. On Sunday I drove 100 mile round trip to Art of Noize show w/ Dino63. All the way across Phoenix and had no issues except minor leaks. It was the maiden voyage for my truck. I fortunately gassed up before hitting the freeway!!!!

Re: Test drive

Hey that truck looks great. Can you tell me who's lock-up kit you used for your 700r4, and what shifter you used.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Test drive

Here is the ebay link to the one I used. It was simple to install, and it works great!http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=010. I used a stock auto steering column with a lokar hard linkage shifter to the tranny. Thanks for the comment too!!

Re: Test drive

I got that same one, but I'm going to have to drill into the servo cover to install mine. I'm kind of worried about that. Did you have to do that? Hey thanks fro the info.

No, mine was already tapped. That shouldn't be that bad. Just make sure you just go through the cover, and get the shavings out.

Re: Test drive

Hey Short Step,
I've got another question for ya. What speedometer kit did you use? I've looked at some at Bowtie Overdrives, but I'm not sure what I really need. Hey thanks fro the help. I'm getting ready to put a 700r4 into my 63' stepside. It's great to see someone else has had good luck with the swap.
Thanks again,
Tim
