another barn find

I took today off----have cash in hand--- to go try to buy a 70 chev short step thats been sitting in a barn since 1997. I have tried to buy it for a year, but have never found him home to talk to. He must be hiding when he see's me comming. I want it and am determined to bring it home today! I'll take pictures.

Re: another barn find

Thanks Bishop. I'm trying to pry my son out of bed to help load it if I make a deal. I think thats more work than making a deal to buy it. No school on fridays so he wants his sleep.

Good Luck ... I have been asked nicely and not so nicely to get the hell off someone's property for asking about purchasing a vehicle that didn't have a For Sale sign on it.

Re: another barn find

Good luck. I have done the same thing in the past and it helps to have cash. It shows you aren't just a tire kicker and wasting time. Just be careful, some people get all bent out of shape when you ask them to sell something that is not clearly for sale.

Re: another barn find

Well-- good news and bad news. Good news is that I bought it and hauled it to my nephews place. Bad news is that it isn't quite the pickup I thought is was in the barn. I think my mind ran away with the idea it was or could be really something. I paid $1500 and think I over spent. Turns out it has a hole in the oil pan you can see in the picture. He also included another small block without the intake. Maybe someone can ID by the pictures. Also included the origional 4 speed and other parts.

Re: another barn find

Hey 72,

Screw the motor. 350s are a dime a dozen. I was given a truck that I took just for the engine. Looks like a solid body and if it is as rust free as it appears, you got more than your moneys worth IMO.

Re: another barn find

Thanks jott 06 for the decode. Now what to do. the seller said th engine in it had high preformance heads. Although he also thought it only had a soft plug out. I could use those heads on up to the carb on top of the spare engine block. I guess i'll start by looking into what came apart that made the cut in the pan. Is it easier to work with the front clip off, or just remove the hood?

Re: another barn find

I think you did just fine. It looks like a really straight original truck.... Between fixing a motor or fixing rust- I'll take the motor every time....

Re: another barn find

Complete solid truck with an extra 350? Sounds like a very fair deal for $1500, I wouldn't feel bad at all.

i wouldnt do either, its probly more work to pull the clip and then put it back on when your dont than to just pull the motor out. unless you have other reasons to pulll the whold frontend apart.

you should be able to get it out without pullllig the hood also.

looks like a decent deal to me, did yuo think it was in runing shape? not to be a dick but thats the sort of thing that makes old cars retire to the barns
