picking up a 68 tomorrow
hey fellas, I'm new to the site and I am looking for opinions. I've never owned a c10 before but have always wanted one. I recently found one for 400 bucks so I bought it. I'm curious what you guys think and would you have bought it? here are the details on the truck:
1968 short step( good title) -6 cyl 3 on the tree(not running) -no glass whatsoever! -rust on the drivers rocker and passenger floor board - suspension is complete -interior is complete - no wood left in the bed(rotted) -fixable dents on both step sides -no wheels -small dent on the hood -no front bumper that's about all I can think of right now. I am going to pick it up tomorrow(saturday) . I hope I havnt bit off more than I can chew. I'm gonna give it a go and I appologize ahead of time for dumb/simple questions. I will become a resident on this site and hope to befriend many. all input on my purchase is appreciated, good or bad. thanks for allowing me to share in the addiction. You will be busy for a while but for 400 bucks it is hard to pass up. Looks like fun.

Re: picking up a 68 tomorrow
Looks like a real lengthy project but one that can be done for sure,as Ive seen worse come back to life.
283,and 327 would have been a couple of V8's then. 283 and 327 really are identical visually on the outside so running the vin numbers and block numbers will determine if its original and what size.350 engines usually have a taller thicker harmonic balancer than the other 327 and 283's.

Re: picking up a 68 tomorrow
I think you could still get the 283 and the 327. If it is the factory installed motor, and it's impossible to verify for sure, I guess it might make it worth a little more. It looks like a real good start - there are a lot of guys who have started with a lot less and made them into beautiful trucks, and this is the place to get the info for it. Good luck, welcome to the board, and keep us posted on your progress!

Re: picking up a 68 tomorrow
307, 327, and 396 were the 3 v 8 engines... no 350s in trucks till 69.

Re: picking up a 68 tomorrow
thanks for the info! i posted a thread to have my vin decoded and was unfortunately informed that my truck came with an inline six so i guess someone already swaped an 8 in it. thats wierd because it was on the road for only 6 years at most and that doesnt seem long enough for the six to quit running and an 8 to be installed to never run again. dont quiet know what to make of it. am i worried about nothing? i guess i can be glad that it has the v-8 motor stands and whatever else is involved to convert to 8 cyl. less work for me huh?

Re: picking up a 68 tomorrow
Looks like a good start for the $. Is the glovebox sticker still there? I doubt it from the pics. If it's still there and readable you can get your original options info.

Re: picking up a 68 tomorrow
Check the regions section of the board. I went to a local meet a couple of years ago, it was cool. Some folks have been talking about doing something local recently, but I haven't checked lately.

Re: picking up a 68 tomorrow
You have your work cut out, but that is what I like to do. BRING THEM BACK FROM THE DEAD!!! My 66 SS Chevelle is not in much better shape and I paid $600 for it. Some days my wife and daughter look to see if I have anything between my ears. but when I get one done they fight over who gets to take it out for a spin. Mortec is a good site for engine casting numbers and much more info too. Keep us posted on your progress.
