79 LWB C-10 Big 10 axle flip ???

I am wanting to lower my 79 C-10. It is a Big 10, so it has 8 springs per side. How far is it going to lower the rear? 5 or 6?

My biggest concern. Would I have to notch the frame? It being a heavy half, I wondered if I would get away with it? Anyone done this to a heavy half before?

What about up front, if I did a 5 and 5 drop, what would be best up front?
3" spindles and cut springs? lowering springs?

I have had this truck 10 years, and it has sat like a 3/4 ton to long LOL! It already sits 2" higher than my brothers standard 1/2 ton 77.

Any thoughts?

Most standard axle flips are 6" roughly as the axle tube itself is 3" plus the thickness of your main usual 3 leafs.If you have 8 leafs and you flip the axle to on top of the leafs you may get between 7-8" alone out of just that. Many flip kits come with either shorter or longer than stock shackles to custom tailor for more or less drop with the flip.

I would take a couple of leafs out also, it will make it ride a little smother and lower it at the same time

I Would Buy Drop Springs For The Front. I Tried And Cut Mine The First Go Around And It Rode Like Crap

I did the same thing I cut a coil off and my truck bottoms out all the time, so I'm tired of it some I got some 3inch drop spindles and 2inch coils and drop shocks, I hope it will drive better I just need to grind on the caliper and double check every thing before I take it for a drive

My 74 has the 8-leaf spring pack as well so the flip-kit was 6" of drop. The 5-leaf trucks get about 5-5.5" of drop on a flip.

I did 3" spindles & cut 1-coil & I also have B.Tech shackles in back. You can live w/o the c-notch w/just the flip but it might occassionally hit. Flip, shackles & no notch.... you'll hit quite a bit more often than you like.
