Which headers should I buy????

My '72 Cheyenne Super has headers that drag the ground and I want to get some new ones. I want the style that collect just behind the valve covers so I can get the rest of the exhaust tucked up under the truck for maximum ground clearance. What do you guys suggest? I really like the Sanderson cast iron headers, but I am not sure they will work. Thanks in advance!

Re: Which headers should I buy????

I think I am going with the Sanderson Block-Hugger headers to resolve clearance issues. I think the number is BB4 which are for the 402BB? ECE I believe ECE sells Sandersons. If I am wrong please correct me . Thanks.

Doug Thorley Tri-Ys are what I`m going with. There are a 3/4 length for our trucks.Shortys don`t give enough benefit over manifolds,IMO.Full lengths are low,as you know, but are what headers are meant to be to fully scavenge gases.3/4 length is a great comprimise and with the Tri-Y design, offer better low-end (torque) while scavenging out those higher rpm gases (HP).Doug`s work with manual shift, too.

Like Tim said, if you are getting shorty headers, you may as well get manifolds.
I had the full length hooker comps on my old SWB, and they never hit the ground with normal driving (that would be MY verson of normal driving) That truck had about 2 inches in drop up front due to 500,000 mile old springs.

Good info...
I never thought of 3/4 length headers. Another manufacturer one might consider is Stan's Headers. They also manufacture Tri Y's. I just might reconsider the 3/4 length. I wonder what the difference is between Thorley's and Stans Tri Y's.

I just got an email from Nick at Thorleys...they dont make a 3/4 length for the 402BB. Back to the drawing board.

Re: Which headers should I buy????

I bought Hedman Shorties....wayyy better than stock manifolds. They are equal length and 1.5" primaries. Tons of low end through 2 1/4" pipes.

While the block hugger style [the chrome cheapies] don't offer a ton of power over manifolds, they are better than ANY stock exhaust for flow.

Those Sandersons are very nice....a very good product from what I hear.

The testing i have read.. which used dynos, say otherwise. As a matter of fact, many cheap headers are marginal at best over good ram horn manifolds.

Sanderson Headers purchased from ECE. Very happy with them. Replaced my Headman Long tubes with these. Say good bye to scraping. Truck sits low with no problems.
