New (old) member here, showing off my 84 Silverado SWB
Just got it about a week ago,
Added a goodwrench front tag added a Lumina Steering wheel ($8.00 from pull a part),to an otherwise fairly clean stock interior.Just needs a little seat work Cleaned and painted the stock 305 ,and added a chrome breather. Last edited by RWJJR; 03-05-2008 at 05:14 AM. |

Nice find!!
PLEASE add a bigger air filter! You're choking the engine. You need at least a 4". A 4.5" is perfect. |

Re: New (old) member here,showing off my 84 Silverado SWB
Ill probably leave it mostly stock looking,The body is solid with no rust at all.It has a new driveway father /son paintjob,that looks better than alot of bodyshop jobs (they just did a bad tape job).Ill probably add some 8 inch rallys (the 7s are too skinny from behind) to the new michelins it has on it.Ill fix the seat and headliner,probably put new side molding on (they taped up the old).I think I got a steal at $2200 even though it needs a little work.

I'm running the stock filter on my 305 and it's usually in a choke mode of some sort, but I always figured it was the carb in need of a rebuild drifting out of tune from time to time.

[QUOTE=KMK454;2609664]Seriously?
[QUOTE] Yes! Here is a snap shot of a 4.5 K&N filter on my ZZ4. I used it on the previous stock 305. I learned by experience the engine would run hot with a 3" filter. Especially at highway speeds. The 4.5" was awsome to WOT. People wondered why the 305 had at least some pep to it. Tuning and having enough air to feed the engine are imporant. |

Re: New (old) member here,showing off my 84 Silverado SWB
[quote=lester622;2610400][quote=gchemist;2610197]The air to fuel ratio was is of whack. I tuned the carb to max vacuum. The 3" small air filter did not supply enough air for fuel ratio at high RPMs. Measure a stock air filter. How big is it? GM engineers got that one right.

I'm not usually a huge fan of two tone colors. That truck is an exception.. I dont know what it is about it, but I like it alot. Best of luck with it and welcome back

Its probably the red. I know some people don't want red, but few can argue how good its looks when shiney.

But my question is, if you compare the volume or air allowed on the aftermarket 2"(?) air filter vs. pulling the air through the stock air cleaner housing (oblong 4" wide opening), wouldn't it be less restrictive? Even if the filter itself is 4" tall it can only pull so much air. Right? To the original poster, NICE TRUCK! Even if the paint job might not be the best, I bet it looks great from 10 feet. And 99% of the time thats all you need.
