Question on getting a 350/400t in my 49 Chevy

I have a 350/400t that I want to go in place of the old 6er with the pedal start. I guess after it goes in you need to put in a push button start? or can you get a ignition that can start without the little pedal? I can really use some help. They make a complete v8 swap for a 55 and up but not a 47-54.

Re: Question on getting a 350/400t in my 49 Chevy

reason they don't is steering box clearance issues on drivers side! that has been main reason lots of people stick with a inline 6', regaurdless if it the stock one or a later inline. the frame rails are kinda narrow for the v-8. if you realy want info on this swap go to www.stovebolt.com and do a search on motor swap. good luck

Re: Question on getting a 350/400t in my 49 Chevy

Thanks for the info, but I couldn't find anything on that forum, maybe I'm doing it wrong. I may keep the original engine, all 50 horses of it...lol. If I go thru this engine do you know where I go about getting the parts? The local part store may have a few...lol...but what about internal parts. It set 20 or 25 years ago because of a bad starter and that was it and my uncle is easy on trucks. I bet the miles aren't very high but I haven't checked if its locked up or not because its kinda tight in the front to get a breakover bar in there.

just try grabbing the fan and put alittle pressure on the belt and see if it turns at all thats what i do to see if the engines are free. i just pulled a 235 out of my 56 and going with a later 250/auto. i seen 350's in your yr truck with stock steering
