I started searching for some new tires for my new wheels on the 68. I'm looking @ Toyo Proxes in 255-40 & 295-40 20's to ZIP 75041.

I have a bad taste leftover from my last Discount Tire visit w/no plans of spending any more $$ w/them so I'm seeking other possibilities. The local 'small' shop that worked w/me after my DT experience is getting me prices but I like to be well prepped before starting negotiations.

Where are you guys getting the good deals? Reputable places? Share those contacts if you have 'em.

Not sure about contacts, but I've had the Toyo Proxies, and Falken Ziex's. Both great tires IMO.

I've heard absolutely nothing but positive stuff about Tire Rack online. One of the guys here at work that races Porsches and his Viper swears by them and orders at least a half dozen sets of tires every couple of months.

I checked them out already. No Toyo Proxes & only 2 choices for 255-40/20's. One is the right price range but doesn't have a matching rear, the other is $437.... each .... just the fronts . . ....

My local guy said $800 mounted/balanced for all 4 if I pay cash.

Around here we also have NTB (National Tire Brand?) which is related to or a subsidiary of Tire Kingdom.

I'm working with a new store and I've got the fronts priced at $142.00 each with the 20/22 combo that I'm running It's under the 650 range before taxes.

The trigger has been pulled. The small shop I used before will get my business. I figure $100 price differential isn't going to make or break the bank when the overall price is 2K.

When I had all the probs w/DT repairing the tire a while back, I had to pay them to dismount the thing (even after paying the fee for the lifetime repair/balance BS). I paid the fee so I could repair the tire myself.

The small shop remounted that tire & balanced it for me. When I went to pay, they said not to worry about it. I handed over $20 for some pizza & offered my sincerest thanks for not being corporate 'bots'. I've bought tires from them since (for the T/A) & that's when I found out that during the last purchase of tires from DT for that car, DT installed the directional tires backwards (I felt like an idiot for not ever verifying they were installed correctly).

The ironic part of this story . . .... the small tire shop is "Scotts Tires"

Oh, no, not at all. And I know what you mean, but the tire was literally $140-180 everywhere I could find on the web, including Tire Rack.

I used the Yokohama Parada Spec-X's. I assume that's the cheaper of the two you found at TireRack. The lack of matching rears is why I ended up with the 45 series tires as opposed to the 40s. I get wholesale discount, no tax and no shipping 'cause they have a warehouse here- couldn't pass 'em up. Sounds like you got a fair deal though.

Shifty- I'd like to hear about your tire deal $109?

It wasn't the same tire. On my GTI, I managed to pick up some 18" Z-rated Kuhmo Ecsta's that normally retal at around $160 average, and they sold @ $109. I shopped online for three days before I blew out a tire and had no choice but to go local or drive around on a donut for a week. So I gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised.

It's really unrelated to the original poster's request. Was just sharing my experience.

Check out Lamineck Tire in Garland.
They are on Shiloh Rd. and Kingsley.
They are a Toyo dealer. Bought some
Bridgestones from them. Only thing
though is they don't torque the lug nuts when they do their free rotate
and balance. I do it when I get home

i dont understand why you would have to pay.. i work for DTC and we dont charge for ANY flat repair nomatter what tire brand you have or where you bought the tire
sorry your experiance sucked so bad. i know i cant change your mind but DTC will BEAT any other price you find out there...
