5th wheelin

Am using my 67 Camper Special to tow me 5th wheel, but am tired of having to lower and raise the tailgate every time I hook up. Has anyone done a "V" notch to their tailgate? Would like to know how you did it before I start whacking away at mine...

I would buy one of those air gates. Its already got a v notch in it and you wont destroy a good tailgate.

I agree with Caminokid.My`72 Sierra was a 5th wheel RV hauler and it came with a non-original gate.I figure the original walked or got backed into the camper.DOH!!

Re: 5th wheelin

That might look cool but it would probably be a better idea to get an aftermarket one or find another tail gate that is beat up and practice on that.

Re: 5th wheelin

I've been looking for an aftermarket, louvered "V" gate, but they don't make em for early models, at least I haven't found one. Which makes me ask the question: How new (model year) can I go before the hinges/latches no longer marry up?

Re: 5th wheelin

Surely you can find a gate that isn't that great on the top.Take it and fab a V into it with some sheet metal. You can proably get them to "break"(make a straight bend) in the metal at the shop where you get it.This could overlap the existing metal and strengthen the V'd section.
Just a suggestion since I have never done one.
