Low 4x4
Im in the market for a 67,68 k10 4x4, my problem is the ride height, i like the way the low trucks look but i need the usability of the 4wd. So, my question is... how can I get a 4x4 to look like a lowered 4x2? One possibility i was thinking about was something similar to a small c-notch in the front frame to get the nose down or, possibly front 4 link?. Any experience with this or any low 4x4? Any Ideas? Thanks

Re: Low 4x4
The biggest obstacle you are going to find is.....the oil pan.
Independant suspension is the only way around that...very expensive conversion. I have never seen it done. Last edited by LONGHAIR; 03-10-2008 at 01:52 AM. |

Re: Low 4x4
what about an IFS off of a silverado or the like? or even a total frame swap? I know that you can swap the body onto a newer truck, but can you swap it to a frame out of say...an early 90's truck with IFS 4wd?

Re: Low 4x4
Thank you, i read their whole thread and imo it didnt seem like they answered the question, or not satisfactory enough for me. I have some money and some skill to make a low 4x4, not a lot of each, but some. are small C-notches even possible? would an IFS 4x4 truck frame fit the body mounts for the 67 or 68?
any help will be much appreciated. |

Re: Low 4x4
A C-notch will not help you a bit. The frame is not the only thing the axle would hit. Independant it the only way to make this happen. Swaping frames or at least part of the frame would take the least fabrication....not none, but less that starting from scratch on your existing frame.

Oil pan and front axle are the bigger immediate concerns if your considering running a soild axle up front. Could do a scavenging oil set up, would net you several inches off the oil pan right there. |

Re: Low 4x4
Raise the motor as much as you can. Look at different oil pans. And measure measure measure.

Re: Low 4x4
Since no one else is jumping at this I will add what I can remember and researched
Early 90's GMC syclone / Typhoon were a s-10 / blazer bodys 4.3L turbo V-6 automatic transmission all wheel drive 290hp @ 4800 350 ft/lb @3900 4.6sec 0-60 13.5 sec 1/4 mile @ 99mph Fastest production vehicle (not sure if this has been beaten?)

Re: Low 4x4
Why bother? Why do you need a 4wd that won`t go where a stock height 2wd will go?
