switch from tbi to carb

I'M AT MY WITS END!!!!!!

I started with a stock 5.7 TBI in an 88 shortbed full sized Chevrolet.

I bored the motor .040, put in a 3 3/4 stroker crank.

Cam is 443 lift 280 duration. Lift at .050 is 214.

Stock reworked heads. It has about 305 hp.

After initially getting it running and broke the cam in, I talked to Brian at Harris performance. He sent me a high flow fuel pump, 18psi fuel regulator spring and a chip programmed to my specs.

after getting these in, it ran but bogged down under accelleration. Brian thinks it has too high pressure. Makes sense......

after screwing around between the stock spring and the 18 psi, I ultimately put the 18 lb spring back in, set the timing at 12 degrees and was going to await a fuel pressure gauge.

After getting the timing set, I plugged the computer wire back together, it immediatly began spitting, sputtering and fouled out the plugs. By the way, I disconnected the battery and shut off the motor before unplugging/plugging computer wire.

I replaced the plugs, unplugged the computer and tried to start it. It won't even run now!!!!!!!!!!! It starts, but spits and sputters and wont idle and stalls out.

It is obviously getting too much fuel, but I have no idea why and no idea what to do next..........I don't know how to decrease the fuel pressure other than putting the stock spring back in.....

What I don't understand, is it at least ran and was roadworthy before changing the pump, fuel pressure spring and chip.

Is their a sensor that could have fried causing too much fuel????????????

I'm tired of throwing money at this thing. I'm seriously considering ripping all that TBI crap out and putting a carb and HEI distributer in it!!!!!!

Part two of my rantings is......Do I need a certain intake to switch to carbureted????? is there a link I can look at to see what is involved? I tried searching and couldnt find much.
