Column Shift Problems/anyone ran into this?
I got the column shift in my c10 but everytime I drive it after the first shift the teeth in the shifting mechanism(does someone know what its really called?) gets all intwined. either it doesnt go into gear or from a stop goes into reverse after a few good jams.
Do I need a new shifting mechanism? Can I rebuild the one it already has?,or should I put the floor shift? has any one ran into this. |

Re: Column Shift Problems/anyone ran into this?
My 71 C10 had a real issue with the linkage....worn out, jamming, etc.
I've put a floor shifter in it for the moment until I figure out all the details on swapping in a T5. It's a Mr Gasket 'one size fits all but really doesn't' from Autozone. Had to download the instructions from the web site and did a lot of modification to get it to fit. Normal hand tool work, grinding, etc. Works great but the shift pattern is 'flipped' from what I expected. No problem. It's now a pleasure to drive. Bypass that column linkage with a floor shift and I think you'll find your problems reduced if not eliminated. Regards.

Go to the FAQ's and search.Krue has a good index. There is a very good post on cleaning lubing and adjusting the 3 speed column shifter.I would try that before i threw down the $$ for a floor shift.I have cleaned and adjusted mine and no longer have the problem.

Re: Column Shift Problems/anyone ran into this?
Check the bushings.
There should be some where the 1st/Rev, & the 2nd/3rd linkage attaches to the shift arms on the tranny; & if memory serves, where the shift linkage exits the steering column.
