Re: 74 to 87 cab swap

this will work but youll need to modify the cab some.. first off the cowl needs to come off the 87 cab you need to swap out the wiper arms and linkage from the old cab and you need to use the mounts from the newer cab.. i think you also have to make a hole for the hood bumpers from the 74 on the 87 cab there is also a post about swapping the vin tags
its a pretty easy straightforward swap

Re: 74 to 87 cab swap

Hope part about the mounts is wrong since I just put an 81 cab on my 79. Used new 79 mounts and the fit looks good, just haven't put the 79 fenders on yet. Was told to use original mts by someone in a previous post.

Re: 74 to 87 cab swap

I have found that the dash is nearly identical, the pads are interchangeable, but the area where the VIN # is located is a little different. I am going to cut the top left side out of the 79 and weld it in so the vin plate and left most dash pad hold down will work right. The other side seems to be identical except for the hole that holds a speaker which can be used both sides if you use an 81 up dash pad which won't require dash mods except for VIN plate.
