Yes another driveshaft question

I searched and came back more confused than when I started.

I am pulling the 6cyl/3spd from my 67. I will be installing a 350/350 setup. I am going to use the V8 towers and bolt them in the forward position. Will the drive shaft work or will I need to look for another one?

Thanks in advance.

I think if you mount the moter in the forward position the drive shaft will be to short. Try measuring the lenght from the front of both bells to the end of the tail shaft .If there the same ,drive shaft to short. auto longer by the diffrence in moter mount position drive shaft good.

Re: Yes another driveshaft question

It all depends on the transmission tail end. Did the same on my 69 Chevy and the drive shaft was actually slightly short. The yoke engaged the output shaft by about 2 inches. If I moved the engine to the rear mounting holes, the shaft was too long and I would have had to have it shortened. I drove it like that for 15 years with no problems though.

Now that I'm going to replace the engine I've decided to move the mounts back about and inch so the drive shaft yoke will engage the transmission output shaft better.

Re: Yes another driveshaft question

it is the short shaft 350 trans from a 72 C10. I should have mentioned that before.

Re: Yes another driveshaft question

You didn't mention whether it's a short wheel base or long wheel base but if it's the short wheel base like mine, then the drive shaft may not be long enough mounted in the front position. I have the the long shaft 350 on mine.

As I mentioned, mine engages the shaft by about 2 inches or maybe 2 1/2. That's why I'm moving it back about an inch.

I'm not sure if yours would work in the rear position. You'll probably will just have measure real carefully and/or place the engine in position to see how it fits.

Re: Yes another driveshaft question

If it will help, I can measure the drive shaft on mine. Also, I have the engine and trans out so I can take a pic of trans but won't be able to post until this evening. Truck's out in the country.

Re: Yes another driveshaft question

My Eng/Trans isnt installed yet. I have everything I need for the swap and the only thing I am not certain about is the drive shaft. I have been told if the tailshaft is the short one, it should work. We'll see next weekend.

10/4. I did my swap so long ago, I don't even remember if I swapped the drive shaft. I had a donor truck at the time.
