6x9 speaker brackets
I know there is or at least was someone making 6x9 speaker brackets in the rear cab corner for the 73-87 chevy trucks so i was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

Re: 6x9 speaker brackets
I'm not aware of anyone making them any more. Several years ago, I was loking for some. I hit up every stereo shop in my area. Nobody had them, and most of the people working there were too young to even know what I was talking about.
A friend of mine used the 4X10 factory mounts found in the 80s Silverados. He just re-drilled them for 6X9 speakers, and swapped them left to right. The respositioning allowed more room to clear large speaker magnets, like the ones on the Pioneer 6X9 speakers he used. Others on here have made their own from MDF. They just used a piece a little larger than the speaker with a top and bottom cap cut to fit the corner. I just looked in junkyards until I found an old set. Slonaker |

Re: 6x9 speaker brackets
Wrong bigblock Bruce
Yes, I found that home made set in a local wrecking yard. They fit OK, but I was not satisfied. I went and reproduced these in CAD, and made the necessary adjustment to get them to fit better. I had one set cut out on a laserjet and bent them up. They fit MUCH better but needed one slight tweak to be perfect. I am currently having eight sets reproduced with the latest changes, should have them on Monday. I will bend them up, trial fit a set in my 73, and sell the rest. If demand is high enough, I'll produce more sets at that time. I'll post a pic shortly of the first reproduced set.

Re: 6x9 speaker brackets
We took the stock ones and trimmed them out to fit what we put into the truck.

Re: 6x9 speaker brackets
Guys, don't have a price yet, haven't been billed for the materials and having them all cut. Once I do, I'll start a for sale thread in the parts section. If all goes well, I should have something by next weekend.

Re: 6x9 speaker brackets
I just used the stock 4x10 mounts and drilled offset holes for the mounting screws. the overall offset was minimal and the 4 way 6x9's fit just fine. The speakers are Rockford Fosgates. I used the 4" kick panels from LMC for the front speakers. Tweeters up front behind the visors. 10" Sub in a custom box with a small amp. System sounds great.
If you look closely, you'll see the 6x9 in the corner. Interior facelift coming soon. Kenny

Re: 6x9 speaker brackets
I have a set of 6x9's in the stock brackets right now, i didn't trim the opening, just drilled some new holes to mount them on. they don't fit that fantastic, there is about 1/4 of an inch clearance between the magnet and the truck...it was tough getting the brackets in place with the magnet wanting to stick to the wall. They sounded ok, not as much bass as i would have liked...so i tossed a little speaker stuffing in the cavity behind the speaker and WOW did it make a world of difference. I still would rather have a 6x9 brackets like the ones above, but if you want to do it on the cheap or whatever, make sure you use speaker stuffing.

Re: 6x9 speaker brackets
Yeah, i had no choice. Can't fit a 6x9 in a 4x10 hole. some times if it doesn't fit force it, other times it just isn't going to happen. It also depends on how nice of a speaker your installing and the size of the mag. Either way use speaker stuffing, when you hear the difference it will amaze you. The original brackets just doen't seal up well and you loose a ton of sound quality. I should added that i mounted a piece of plastic on the inch hole that the 6x9 didn't fill.

Re: 6x9 speaker brackets
Ok I got tired of wondering so I went out to install my 6x9's, looks like too much work to top mount them on factory bracket and I wasnt thrilled about mounting them behind the bracket either so I just made my own. I am changing the interior to gray so ignore the color difference.
