what seats are you guy's running?

I want to put a new seat in my truck, but funds are very limited. I have been looking at a local "you get it yourself" salvage yard and all of the trucks have very bad seats in them. So, I was thinking of putting a car seat in it. I would rather put buckets in it, but the third seat sure comes in handy some times. The yard has a ton of cadillac, buick and pontiac seats in really good shape. I was looking at a buick bench with an armrest out of a lesabre (its cloth, I hate leather), but I am worried it may not be wide enough. I forgot my tape to measure it. What are you guys running? Thanks

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

I was thinking of using bucket seat out of a 91 chevy pickup, they are similar to buddy buckets in size and getting them to bolt up would be simple and then I am going to make our buy a center consle to put junk in and maybe even put the CD player in

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

I picked up a set of cloth/vinyl seats out of an '04 Chevy work truck. They have the built-in seat belts and the middle 'buddy' seat with belts (and two cupholders!) Got them off ebay for less than $300 shipped. Trying to get them installed this week and get pics. My biggest concern was trying to get some decent shoulder belts in the truck without too much work.

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

the second seat out of a tahoe works well . Putter used one of these in his project with shoulder belts too. Looks real nice.

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

the thickness of the seat back and the angle it reclines at will eat up alot of the nonexsistant leg room. carful mesurements should be taken when concidering a car seat

I am putting these in mine as soon as I get the ECE rear fuel tank installed. They are from a 2003 Chev Extended cab pickup with the matching console and have power both sides.

wibilly hit the nail on the head. If you are 6 ft or more, then you'll want something with a thin seat back... the 88 - 89 c/k trucks have very thin seat backs.

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

in my 68 i have a set of old swivel bucket seats i had originaly thought they were from a 70s trans am but i was told they might be out of an early monte carlo but they have nothing under neath to raise them up any and ar as far back as they can go and work nicely in the truck, in my other truck i have a front bench out of a 96 chevy quarter ton and it fits in there real good with good leg room and height, a friend of mines dad has a 87 cadilac front seat in his 72 step beater truck and i dont know if he had to do anything specil to get it to fit other then drill new holes but it seems to fit in there good i know that u have to slm the doors to get them to close all of the way cause the seat is a little to wide for the truck

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

I found a pair of 80's buckets at the Canton, TX swap meet for $25! Both are burgundy velour....didn't take me long to put them in and build a console between them.

Not sure about the '67 but I will be keeping my eyes peeled at the swaps this year.

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

I got a bench w/arm rest from an 89 chevy truck, it cost me $10 at a pull-it yard, and with some elbow grease, it looks like new. I've found that these seats are very durable. Lots of other models seem to be worn through, or torn, or both. They type like I got seem to be surviving the years quite well.

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

this is the best pics i have of mine... 02 avalanche rear seat. center console flips down, and has 2 cup holders in it. im working on putting in the original belts, just lap belts, for now. i cut down the original avalanche brackets severly, and it still sits a little high. someone much bigger than me wouldnt be able to drive it.. if i had to do it again, id just put in a 88-94 bench like jim did

Removing the tank would do nothing as far as seats go.. the seat hits the wall over the tank before coming close to the tank... even my short buckets do that.

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

94 gmc full size bench just like JIM PA's even the color. offers plenty of leg room, looks good & easy to install would suggest late model seat belts with it..

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

not narrow at all. They are aftermarket seats... bostrom seats, commonly found in med duty trucks, like P/30 step vans. I scored them off of an e-bay seller back in 05.

Late 80's early 90's 60/40 bench seat. Can't remember. Fit was good drilled new holes and it's done. Used the same seatbelt mounts with sholder harness.

Re: what seats are you guy's running?

No pics right now, but I used a set of seats out of a late model Plymouth Voyager mini-van. I'm 6'3" tall and needed all the leg room I could get. Definitely more than the factory seat provided.

The voyager seats sit on pedastels, and all I had to do was drill a couple of holes for the rear bolts. I built backing plates to make sure they don't rip thru the floor. But something tells me that if that were an issue, I'd have bigger problems to worry about.

Anyway, they fit well, and sit about 3" higher than the original seat did, giving me a nice comfy ride. Short people, on the other hand, have issues. My boss in a pretty short fella, and his feeet barely touch the floor. He said it makes him feel like a kid, sitting in the truck. They are high backed seat though, and thus look a little odd, but comfort comes first, for me.

Another perk, the passenger side seat has a lockable drawer under it. My plan was to use that for tool storage, but room ran out, and now there will be an amp under both seats. The tunes win just about every time!
