How much of a drop. 83 GMC.

Hey guys. I am wanting to drop my truck a few inches. What do you all think will be the best to drop it.

I am thinking a 5/4 or 4/3. I want to know what you all think I should drop it.

I think looks really good the way it is. you could lower it up front an inch or two, to give it a sport look to it. But thats my taste.

Re: How much of a drop. 83 GMC.

I would go either with a 2-4 with coils, hangers and shackel, if want to still use it as a truck and its drove all the time, or a little lower 3-5 with spindles and flip kit and a c-notch if your going to hall any thing

I'm in the same boat as you, trying to decide how much to drop. I think that 4/5 drop looks good, but I plan on running 17x9/11's.

I plan on getting drop spindels and leaf springs, or some kind of kit my brother is talking about.

Re: How much of a drop. 83 GMC.

Here's a chop of your truck with a 'modest' drop in the neighborhood of malo's drop . The wheels are just in the wheel wells. With the right backspacing, the tires shouldn't rub. Otherwise, you may have to decrease the drop a bit. I guessin' a flip kit in the rear and a combination of drop spindles and springs in the front. To be sure, take a measuring stick to the front and rear to figure out the distance between the top of the wheel and the fenderlip to figure the drop. Then measure for clearance between the rear axle and the frame rail. I'd shoot for at least 3" of clearance.

BTW, good-looking truck.

Re: How much of a drop. 83 GMC.

i think a 2.5/4 drop looks sick
and it doesn't take any serious modding like c-notches or anything. just drop spindles in the front and a drop bracket and blocks (maybe, i can't remember) in the back.
imho
and that looks looks pretty sweet there Box

Re: How much of a drop. 83 GMC.

I did a 2.5/4 on mine with shackles and hangers in the back and spindles in the front, I like the stance. I'm not much of a mechanic, but with help here was able to do the work myself. Its basically bolt on stuff. The geometry of suspension is not changed at all and stock wheels and tires have no problem, I probably have about an inch from the top of the tires to the wheel wells. Good luck, you have a nice looking truck there, bob

Re: How much of a drop. 83 GMC.

Did you guys have to notch the bed brace with rear shackles? I bought a shackle kit for my 86 once, but sent them back when I found out I had to cut the bed. I actually advised him to go 2.5" drop spindle up front and 4" drop leaves in the rear.
