My first Cheyenne

Here's a pic of my Cheyenne I just picked up. IT has some rust on the two front corners below the drip rail and just above the corner of the front windshield. Can anyone give me advice on how to repair this? Are there replacement parts for these areas?

I'm new to this board. I'm looking forward to anyone's response.

Thanks

Re: My first Cheyenne

Welcome from Vienna, Austria. Best thing to do is get a wire wheel on a drill and clean those spots up and get some primer on it. After you clean the spots up, you can see what shape they are in. Nobody makes replacement parts for that area. You would have to cut them out of another cab and weld them into yours. That is a major job. Best thing to do is clean up what you have and go from there.

Re: My first Cheyenne

Welcome! You'll be right at home here. Nice looking truck. Im not a body guy, but the drip rail rust is pretty common. As for the windshield corner, I havent heard much of.

Got a pic of the SPID label in the glove box?

Looks a lot like mine before I started the resto (sans the lwb of course)

Theres a growing numbers of us on the board with that paint scheme, you should stick with it when you slap a new coat on it =P

Re: My first Cheyenne

You scored a nice little pickup, even with the weird rust areas. I agree, a picture of the SPID would be nice. Shortbed Cheyennes are good catches, and that one looks to be in pretty good shape.

Re: My first Cheyenne

Welcome to the board!Looks like a very solid starting point.I agree with the others, that paint scheme is a winner, freshen it up a bit and it'll be a beauty.
Original 350 in it?Air,Tilt or any of those goodies?

Re: My first Cheyenne

Thanks, Here's a pic of the built sheet inside the glove box. Not sure about what some of the options are (i.e. belt molding) Also, is this color supposed to be blue/white/ blue or just blue /white?

Re: My first Cheyenne

Cool truck!! Cheyenne's came with the lower molding automaticly, so the belt molding is the upper trim. Most cheyenne's had it , but it was still an option.

Re: My first Cheyenne

Welcome!Great score!Chip out the old sealer and grind that area down to clean metal,as well as the rest of the rain gutter.I`d used a 3m fiber abrasive wheel.give it a coat of Permatex Rust Treatment and PB Weld any hole that`s there and give it a coat of a good sealing primer. Then, smear 3M seam sealer back into the gutter. Finally coat with some gloss white rustoleum, letting it blend back into the top (masked windows/trim).That`ll do until you get into anything major.
Where is the rust around the winshield?Upper or lower?

and from West Sacramento. That's a good looking truck I originally went looking for '71-'72 cheyenne or cheyenne super but ended up with its close cousin a GMC. Goodluck on your project.

Re: My first Cheyenne

THe rust is around the upper corner of the windshield, but below with drip rail. Wondering if its better to cut a roof from the junk yard and replace it.

Re: My first Cheyenne

It depends on how bad it is.That may be the best choice.Have you checked lower areas for rust below it along the water`s path? The water usually runs down the pillar and the floor often rusts where the kick panel meets. Also, the header panel (panel over windshield) can get soft or show holes near the visors.
