'72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
I went to go see a truck today. Ok guys just like the title says, '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB Fleetside, is it worth $2800? Here are some pics, not very good due to the phone camera. It is a true 1972 Cheyenne Super SWB BB, thanks to Dantip for the clues to look at it. It has tilt, A/C (no compressor) usual rust on rockers, both corners of cab. The guy says he had it running, looks to be original engine, numbers check out. No build sheet, one bad re-paint. Basically it needs a full restoration, not running, it is a TH400 but who knows on the condition, tranny who knows? Needs a new bed, rust and dents all around. No grille, windshield cracked. What do you think? He wants $2800 for it and he is proud of it. He says these are rare and he won't go down anymore. Hmmm? How rare for this poor truck left to rot since 1988? How much??? I am still debating it since I did not bring it home with me. If anyone really wants it if/when I pass I can give you the location of it.

I don't think it's $2800 worth of rare. That's just his pride talking. I don't know what the "right" price is, but it's definitely not $2800 - not even in the ballpark.

It`s a yes and no thing.Only because it`s a factory CheyenneSuper Big Block SWB.Less would be nice.I guess the better it would be,the more it would be.It`s the only way you`ll get one of those that cheap,IMO.It`s worth a whole new bed, which is available. It`s worth every new body panel you put on it.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
looks beat on pretty good, but $2800 is a drop in the bucket to what it would cost to restore her.
Quick redneck cost/benefit analysis: You can buy one either in very good survivor condition, or a nice resto for 15 - 18k (swb, BB, etc.). Or, for another ---- hmmmm---lets say 15k again---, you could bring that one around to where you can park it in front of the country club again, only this one costs you 15k plus $2800 plus 6 months to a year of spare weekends and long nights. I'd pass and keep throwing my spare change in a folgers can until it added up to about 7 or 8 grand, then i could buy a little easier resto piece, but thats just me. If he was asking, say 1500- 1750, i would love to have that truck for parts though -- not that its quite a "parts truck" yet, but its close

I agree with the above, if it didn't need a new bed, it might be worth it. I don't know about everyone else, but "numbers matching factory optioned" C10's I don't believe are any more valuable than a bare bones and peiced together optioned truck once they are "restored".

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
its all about how much you really want to spend and how much time and money that you feel like throwing at it yes i think 2800 is a bit hi i would probably give him 2000 and maybe a little more than that if it was a 4x4 but it is all in the eye and the pocket book of the beholder

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
Its a tough call but I don't think its worth $2800. I was thinking a forceful $1500 but as I said he sure is proud of it. His fav words "this truck is easily worth $20k once restored" I told him well maybe, but its going to take you another $15k just to get it there People been seeing too much of the Barret-Jackson thing. I like the truck but not for $2800, yes it is rare but not for that price. He even says its very rare... its a Cheyenne Super Sport SS as he puts it, "see its on the label" I told him that yes its on the label but its only called a Cheyenne Super. Do you think he believed me? NOT

2800?
I got my truck for that. In austin. Not as great a VIN, but still - mine ran and worked and passed inspection the NEXT day. Hell drive to Houston and get this for 2500 and have a runner! http://austin.craigslist.org/car/611274149.html |

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
I bought my 71 super with the motor out and replaced every panel but the cab, replaced corners, rockers and 2 cab mounts, and the replaced everything and I mean everything not just the visible stuff that is popular with many, I used NOS everywhere I could because of what the truck is/was and ended up spending $22,000 with paint and without my time. The truck appraised for $26000 when it was finished. I paid $800 for the truck and got the motor in pieces 8/9 years ago. My suggestion is to take the advice and low ball the guy with $1500 and meet with $1800 if you are going to do with the truck what a SWB BB truck warrents, if not find a regular truck and build the truck you want. Do not however try to look at the bottom line ( barrett- jackson or others because as others have stated before they are just trucks not SS/RS camaros or yenkos etc.) the truck market is fickle nd depends on what people want etc., the more documentation that you can provide the better you will do with this truck in my opinion and personal experience (no build sheet with mine).

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
well i bought mine for 2500 with no motor, ended up replacing the cab, box was decent. but it came with a perfect bucket seat interior, which was worth 800-1000 imo, that truck looks like it could be worth 2000-2800 to me but im in the salt belt.

The price isn't that far off IMHO..
That is the "holy grail" of 1972 Chevy trucks. It looks to be well optioned too..

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
Does it at least have the SPID on the glovebox door (does it have a gloebox door)? If not, the only thing that you can guarantee to a person that buys it from you is that it is a numbers matching BB.
IMO a rebuilt highly optioned Cheyenne Super is just a c/10 with options added to make it look like a Super, without documentation. |

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
Yes it does have the glovebox door SPID label. It is taken off and is sitting in the interior, same VIN, Cheyenne Super BB SWB. 72 Super, I tried to low ball him and he would not have it. He said..."if it does'nt sell I'll just keep it" I told him good luck getting $2800 for it. Most people want to atleast drive it, this one does not run and is missing a lot. Anyways, thanks all for your words, for $2800, my gut is telling me to pass.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics
Now here is where I differ with most. The most desireable of all the 67-72 trucks is the Big Block short bed truck and options are the icing on the cake. Condition is always a major factor but that you can improve on which is way different then building a basic truck into a big block after the fact. The price---5-10 years ago, it would have been a bargin at $3500. Market is a little weak right now but---if you are a restorer, this would be a great project with lots of topside potential. BUT, you would have to be careful to not overdue the investment as even beautifully restored, it would probablly be a $15K+ truck but not a $25K classic.
The glove box build sheet is pretty easily replaced. Matching numbers would be critical to prove original. My .02---Huck |

I am on the side of thinking that the price is not that far off. I would have to look at it but I might pay that. But, I can do a lot of the work myself and it is just a hobby for me. Cheyenne Super Big Block SWB, very tempting. It looks to me like enough of us have responded positively that he will probably get his price.

I bought my 70cst for $2350 BACK IN 2001. It's a 70cst LWB with a 402BB, 400 auto, buckets, ac, tach, etc. The bed floor is gone but most of you have seen the 71 LWB take off bed that I got for $1500...with all this said...if you want a numbers matching truck and are willing to save your money and be willing to spend $15-20,000...then I say go for it. But I would think you could wait and find the truck of your dream for a lot less. JMHO
