Brakes?

I recently replaced all my stock rubber lines with braided stinless steel lines. Bled brakes several times but still no brakes. Found a clogged rear wheel cylinder, replaced both, still no brakes. Pluged lines from m/c to check it and no good. Bench bled m/c, reinstalled with lines still plugged, still no good. Had a booster and m/c from 89 burb on the shelf in the shop, so i decieded to make the swap. everything installed and looking much better than the stock setup, plugged lines from m/c and it checks out ok(bench bled it prior to install also). Hooked up brake lines and bled the system several times. I now have brakes but the pedal is very soft. It feels like there are no brakes at all but the truck stops fine. I would prefer a little more stiffness in the pedal. Brakes were fine before I decieded to replace the rubber lines, they were looking pretty bad. Please help, I'm starting to lose my mind.

Re: Brakes?

Just thinking out loud here.
You hooked the master cyclinder back up to the right line right.
You may want to bleed them again and maybe flush out the system good if it was clogged up at one point.
Any mositure at all will cause all kinds of problems. If the fluid is over a few years old I would flush it good.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Brakes?

If brakes feel mushy but still stops you could still have some air in the system somewhere. You may have air in the front or rear sides. Not enough to prevent you from stopping but enough to feel mushy.

Here's a simplified site on how stuff works describing what I'm referring to. I like to use it because it has pretty decent graphics. If you scroll down and click the red arrow, you can see that a leak (as in this case) or air may allow extra travel of the primary piston.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/master-brake1.htm

Another possibility is that the master cylinder primary piston is allowing some fluid to flow back into the the reservoir past the seal.

I've had to replace new master cylinders several times before finding a good one. In one case, I finally asked for my money back and went to a different auto parts and got a different brand.

Forgot to add... This was on one of my newer trucks not my 68 or 69... But still could apply.

Re: Brakes?

Have you checked the Proportioning Valve? Had a similar problem and the Proportioning Valve fixed it .
Good Luck
