What tranny do I use for '57 P/U?

Hi all. I just bought a '57 Cameo pickup, proclaimed by the out-of-state sellers to have "transmission trouble". Turns out the "transmission trouble" is that it has no transmission. It does have the 3 speed column shift stuff and original 283. Can you tell me what are the proper match-ups as I search for a tramsmission for bolt-in applicatiaon on the 283? Also, who are you guys using for good chrome plating? Anybody got a radio for this truck for sale? Thanks for any and all help.

V8 transmissions are not the same gearing as 6 cylinders. 6 cyl trans will bolt up if you don't find one locally. .

Re: 350TH and a 283

Yes, thanks. I've done some research around here, and have decided to install a 350TH behind the original 283. It's a cameo, so I'll hold on to all the original parts (drive line, shifter linkage etc.) in the event that I ever sell it and the new owner wants to go back....

I did a search on the VIN and it came up as having been a 3 speed w/overdrive truck. Does that make sense?
