So I knew I would have to face this stuff some day, and that day is getting nearer. Should I even try to fix this or just find another cab?? The beginning of both large holes are above the 9" height of the replacement kick panel pieces u can get (just to give you reference) Needless to say, when I got this thing the air vents were full of trash!

This is the PS kick panel and the nice rust it has accumulated....

This is the DS kick panel....

and the cowl air vent area??

That's fixable. You might see if someone on the board has a junk cab but with those pieces still good. Or, since you're in Arizona finding a good cab shouldn't be too hard.

So I'm basically going to have to buy another cab anyhow, whether I repair mine or just replace it, huh?

I would say fix it the damage is not that bad you can always make panels bigger with a welder, cutting wheel and extra metal. That would be far easier then a cab swap.

What does the rest of the cab look like? If it is rusting like that, I would think the floor would have issues as well. I think if you come across a nice cab buy it, but if not fix the one you have. Depending on how much other rust it has, weigh the price of you time to the price of a nice cab. Just my $.02

I agree to fix it. Seems like someone could cut out the piece and fabricate one to weld up further past the vents. It wouldn't be original, but a lot easier than replacing a cab.

The floors are ok, the PO did some repairs on the cab before I got it. I'm just worried about what is behind all of that.. I haven't gotten around to pulling the front fenders and seeing how far the damage goes.
This thing was just going to be a beater/weekend toy, but I keep finding more stuff I want to fix. I have the sickness!

And 68Mike, that is a nice cab! But I may have found one closer to me already. If not, I may be in touch.

Doesn`t Tri-Pro Automotive make that panel now?I wonder if it`s affected the lower pillar.

I have all your rust and then some riveted...from what ive observed on my 71...if your vent is like the one on the passenger side under the fender the air box is probably gonna be really rusted...what kinda shape is your windsheild frame up top in?

It's fixable, but a faster, less frustrating and cheaper solution is to get a different cab. That way you can fix it without your truck being down. We are in AZ, they are all over the place.

Windshield frame up top is fine. It's basically just the vent area of the cowl and then the kick panel area. I don't think the PO ever cleaned out the vents, and it was sitting in east Texas....

I'll check TriPro to see if they have that part now. If the other cab is as rust free as the seller says, I may just buy it until I decide which way to go. As much as my cab is going to be torn down anyhow, seems like a cab swap would be pretty easy, although a lot of you seem to think otherwise.
