Brake questions???
Ok gang,I realize this may belong in the suspension forum but I thought I might get more and quicker reponses here.I did not find what I need to know there or in a search.
First this is a 68 Panel,6 cyl.,3 on the tree.I installed McGaughey's 2 1/2 drop spindles and 6 lug disc rotors.I now need the following info to finish the work. 1.Can someone tell me(or post a pic) of how you ran the rubber brake hoses to keep them from rubbing? 2.Where does the aftermarket proportioning valve plumb into the system?Front or rear brake line?(pics here would be nice also) 3.I can't find a set of the tubes to bench bleed the MC.Where can I get some?Do I really need to do it that way? 4.I'm assuming the brake lines will only plumb onto the MC in the proper place(they look to be different sizes).Or is there a rule of thumb? I would really like to get this finished since I am booked for 2 of the next 3 weekends and I don't really want to drive a Dddddooodddddgggggeeee to the NC Board meet.So TIA!!!!

Re: Brake questions???
I'll try my best.
1. Here's a few pics of my rubber lines, look at the shape. It clears fine. 2. I used a stock PV from a 71' and bought adapters (sorry don't remember sizes) but here's a pic showing the 2 fitting on the rear. I also bought one for the front. 3. I got my MC at Autozone for $14 and it came with the bleed kit. 4. It's pretty much only one way to line them up but I remember having to slightly bend the rear line a little. Hope this helps!

Re: Brake questions???
Thanks 70c10,I had a loop in my hose because it looked too long(kind of a pig tail)It rubbed the caliper/rally one way and the CA the other.Never thought about just letting it be straight(I was trying to tuck it in for some reason). You've at least solved that problem.I just need to figure out the prop valve now and buy a bleeder kit for the MC.I would have used a factory prop valve but could not find a new one.
I was really disappointed that the McGaughys kit I bought didn't come with instructions. Most of it was stuff I had already researched but it would have been nice to have the manufacturer give me a clue.

Re: Brake questions???
Since I don't have a factory prop valve and doubt i can get one unless I find a wrecking yard open on easter.....I really need a pic of how a Wildwood prop valve plumbs in..

Re: Brake questions???
It goes inline on the rear brake line, after the MC and before the rear Tee on the axle. Anywhere is fine, just make sure you bolt it to something and not just hang it off the lines, in the air. If you do, after enough bouncing around, it will eventually crack the hard lines.
Make sure you have it all the way open at first and the work at closing it, once you are able to test drive it. You want the rears to lock up AFTER the fronts. If the rears lock up before, it will spin you around. I know this one personally. BTW, IIRC the Wilwood valve has it labeled, in and out. In is from MC, out is to rear brakes Good luck. Re: Brake questions???
Thanks Mike. Now I am sure of what I "thought".If I get good weather for a day I should be able to get really close.I got some tires mounted for the rear and threw a couple of old 235's on the front wheels just to get it back to rolling.
I will fab up a bracket as a "Goverment project" Mon. at work

Re: Brake questions???
3. I remember reading somewhere (it may have been those instructions you get when you buy a mc) that another way to bleed the MC is to just plug up the holes with plugs and bench bleed. i had an old set of MC to PV lines laying around, i took those, bent them up, and used some spare vaccum hose to return fluid from these ports back to the resevior. instead of putting the MC into a vise and using a screwdriver/awl i like to paint the MC and then bolt it to the firewall/booster and with my bleeding line hooked up, i used the brake pedal to bleed the MC. I would try your local parts stores, if you havent already, i know napa sells some like 6in line already with fittings, dont forget that even if these fittings are wrong to look for some adapter fittings as well
4. the bigger resivoir on the MC (the one towards the front of the truck is for the front brakes and the smaller resivoir (the one towards the back of the truck) is for the rear brakes. i hope this answers your question
