SBC Parts Swap

I'm having trouble finding performance parts for a 307 (anyona surprized).
What I want to know since they're the same bore can I use 283 pistons?
From what I see, a 307 is a 283 with 327 crank.
Thanks,
Joe

Re: SBC Parts Swap

The compression heights are different - I think 1.640/1.655 for the 307 and 1.780/1.805 for the 283.

A Summit Racing search comes up with no fewer than 8 307 piston choices:

And Northern Auto Parts has a kit, but no details on the piston:

Looks like you've got some options

Re: SBC Parts Swap

Kudos for shopping local! It just seems that the day of the local speed shop is just about over...especially for any SBC that's not a 350 or a 383.

Also talk to your machine shop that will be doing the work for the build - many times they have great sources and pricing that's pretty consistent with what you'd pay at one of the 'net vendors.
