Ram horns with stock exhaust?

I found a set of ram horns for a good price. I wanna pick them up, but I wanna make sure they will fit with my stock exhaust first.

I dont wanna pay to have my exhaust re-routed.

Any ideas?

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/pts/615623185.html

that's them for anyone curious

Thanks fellas!

Ram-horns exit in a different location vs. stock GM type log manifolds. They should still work w/slight re-piping of the beginning of the exhaust. I seem to recall when N2Trux used them on his they fit, but they were pretty close to the mm tower on one side. Check w/Ken . . .....

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

They work good, and are the best free flowing manifolds you can get....I put them on instead of headers because I hate changing header gaskets, and collactor gaskets

I had custom stainless exhaust made, and installed along with the manifolds....

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

Those are truck ram horns. They came stock on the 67-72 gen trucks. The ram horns I have on my 77 are a bit different...

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

IIRC, the difference is the outlet diameter (2.25" truck vs. 2.5" vette) & the angle of the 'collector' where it mates up to the exhaust right?

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

Yes, that's the major difference. The Corvette Ram Horn flows much better due to the way it opens up well above the "collector" area.

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

IIRC, the ones from 67-72 trucks are prone to cracking. Check them closely before buying.

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

where is a good place to look for corvette ram horns, and what years did the 2.5" come on? Is there someplace that sells them new?

After reading a bit more about headers vs. manifolds I think I'm going to wait to see if i can find a set of 2.5" ram horns somewhere. I love working on my truck and all, but I really dont want to replace header gaskets all the time.

Thanks,

Jared

A close second for new ramhorms would be Speedway Motors. They sell a completly re-vamped style that look killer & they're available in natural stainless, polished stainless, & natural cast steel. They are more expensive but don't require any clean-up to look killer.

High quality header gaskets & locking header fasteners go a long way toward the service life of header gaskets. Google 'Stage-8' fasteners or 'split-lock' fasteners to help keep things tight. And.... there's always good old red lock-tight to keep things in place.

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

Don't let the rep of cheap headers deter you from purchasing a set...there are indeed quality headers out there, that do not require constant gasket changes.

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

Would the manifolds from speedway motors flow better than the old corvette ram horns?

I've never seen any flow comparisons. But.... you can't get vette manifolds in stainless either.

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

true, I know I cant really ask this, but do you think I could pick up a pair of vette ram horns for cheaper or more than the speedway motor's ones?

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

Rockauto.com, as well as corvette restoration places, sell the ramshorns new.

Vettes would be used & most likely cheaper initially. But, if you want them smooth like N2Truxs', it will take time, effort, & coating ($$).

But the natural stainless Speedway 'Tru-Ram' units @ $349 are ready to go & Speedways claim is "they flow better than stock GM versions".

Re: Ram horns with stock exhaust?

I think I may save up for some from speedway. If I get impatient, I may just go for some headers.
