can you shorten a steering column for them tall c10ers

so im gonna put some seats from a 04 siverado in the 67 and being 6' 3'' im trying to get space from anywhere possible. i know installing them is going to limit leg room but i dont care considering how comfy and cool they look. it would just be alittle more comfortable if i could get the steering wheel about 2 or 3 inches closer to the dash. is this possible? has anyone seen this done? if so, where and is there pics?

thanx

Have you ever spent any time in those seats? They may *look* comfy... but personally, they hurt like MAD.
They will kill a lot of space.
Remove the intermidiate shaft from between the column and the steering gear box, and colapse it. I've had some that were so easy I just dropped it on the cement long ways, and I recently hade one so stubborn that I had to put it in the press, and it was STILL a bear to do. Shorten it a couple inches, then loosen your column inside the cab and under the brake booster, push the column forward, and install the int shaft. Tighten it all up.
*you may have issues with the neutral safety switch stopping you from pushing it too far, I don't know, honestly, I normally remove them from my van tilts and never bother putting them back.*

as long as you have some time in the seats.
I know we swap a LOT of them out at work, seems NO ONE likes them, and I agree... we have an 01 and an 05, and they both put me in pain.

Re: can you shorten a steering column for them tall c10ers

I have done the swap for the seats and want to do the stearing wheel as well. I like my seats they are pretty comfy to me and I'm 6'2" but they do eat up a bit of leg room. If you remove the tank and relocate it you can gain the room back and be able to recline them a little bit. you can also remove the head rest and put the head rest from the tahoe back seat in their place which also helps with room although I havent done that yet I may in the future. Overall I'm pretty happy with mine.
