What ratio manual Tranny?

I am running a stock 350/260hp 3.73 rear gear 31 inch Tires. I want to upgrade to a 4 speed manual tranny. Money being an issue I am most likely to purchase a saginaw. What gearing should i select 1, 2 or 3 ring? I will not be doing any towing or heavy hauling, bascically a weekender and light hauling...thanks

Re: What ratio manual Tranny?

Try to find a super t-10 in the early/mid 70's up to an '82 camaro/firebird. I paid $85 for mine

Might as well go for the one with the lowest first gear ratio either way you go

If you are looking for low first, then get a SM465, with a 7.0:1 (appx) first, 2.5 mph in first & 4lo

Re: What ratio manual Tranny?

i wouldn't get a saginaw if you plan on doin anything besides granny shiftin. i know they're alot cheaper than a muncie or something else, but if you like slammin gears, you'll blow it up quick. i used to run saginaws in my '69, killed one about every 3 months. switched to a muncie and after a year of beatin on it, its still in there. chris.
