What is the best way to install the windshield in a 72 suburban. I have new rubber without trim.

Re: windshield installation
i will insert a 1/8 rope in the gasket grove for the body when the rubber is on the glass. the rope ends are best if they meet at the top of the glass on the inside and hold the rope ends to the glass with tape so they are there for the inside person to pull on. you can use windex to soak the grove and rope. then with the help of a buddy (one person on each side of the glass) walk with the glass from the front of the truck to the windshield opening and lower the glass down into the opening makeing sure the rubber seal is 1/2 in 1/2 on the outside on the bottom edge and the gently lean the glass back to the top of the cab. part two- one man in the cab one man outside the cab. the outside man will VERY Carefully push the glass to the truck cab on the top center and the man on the inside pulls one side of the rope in a down and back towards his chest. he will have the watch that the windshield rubber is now folding in and over the steel of the cab ( if it will not fold in spray it on the inside edge of the glass and rubber) and work your way around the glass till your back to the top and you have the rubber lip all the way around on the inside. the out side man will have to keep a small amount of down force on the glass near where the rope is beeing pulled to make sure the lip is coming in with the rope and stay with the total rope pull. just take you time and keep the rubber wet so it will side in easy. i have some times had to use a plastic bone ( or a plastic paint brush handle will with the brissels cut off and one end ground off to resemble a large flat blade screwdriver ) to help get the rubber into place. it's a two person job and do not get ramy with it. it's your glass so go easy and you will be just fine. or run to the body shop and they could do it for you.

Good post but I always use three people, two on the outside and one on the inside. That way the outside person doesn't have to keep running from one side to the other and keeps the pressure on the glass even.... LockDoc
