Go-Pedal Fab..Macht es Schnell! UPDATE - Pt. 2.

As the title says, I got bored today, and decided I wanted to make a gas pedal for the ol' girl.

So, since I have a 4x2 sheet of aluminum diamond plate...

started with a good pattern.

trace, and compare to stock gas pedal, after shrinking to make it about the same size.

rough out with angle grinder and cut off wheel, then slap it in the vice, and take it down to the lines with a big ferrier's file.

some decorating...

and in the truck.

Is it out of place? Sure. Is it kind of lame? You bet. But. It beats paying 20 bucks for a footprint gas pedal, which my parents were going to buy me as a surprise present. I would've been down with that, but, there's better things to spend a 20 on.

And, if I don't like and get tired of it, it makes a nice wall hanging. or...something.

But, thats where it sits right now.

Time invested: 1.5 hours.
Total cost: nadda.

Lemme know whatcha think.

-Sam.

Don't ever ask for others' opinions.....you'll probably get them!
Personally, I think it's pretty cool- for a mid-70's disco-van! Granted I'm totally down with the Chuck-Taylor pattern and can give you props for fabbin' it up.....just ain't my style! One of these day's I'm gonna "acquire" a big blue oval emblem and use that as a loud-pedal. That way it will be crystal clear where my loyalties lie! Nothin' like my size 12 Doc Martens mashin' the bejeezus out of a F*#D!

Re: Go-Pedal Fab..Macht es Schnell!

haha, no worries man! different strokes for different folks. I just wanted something a bit different, and I think I got that.

and like I said, if i end up not liking it, I can just take it off, and put the stocker on, or make another one.

thanks for the input. .

Pretty cool. How about cutting up the shoe and slipping the sole over the pedal so you see the Chucks tread pattern and have a rubber surface?

Tim,

I would, because that'd be pretty rad. except for the fact that I still wear them...haha.

Maybe I'll look for a pair at a thrift store, so kicks and giggles.

Re: Go-Pedal Fab..Macht es Schnell!

Hmm...maybe if I make another one...I'll skip the artwork, and leave it plain diamond plate.

...would prolly fit the "theme" of the truck better. haha.

Sam, that's pretty cool...and different! I wouldn't want it on one of my rides, but I really like it on yours.

Re: Go-Pedal Fab..Macht es Schnell!

I may be sick.. but I prefer to just use the metal shaft without the floor mounted pedal... thats how my '70 came to me, but I have size 14 feet. The '67 I just got has the pedal and all.. it seems Alien to me.

Re: Go-Pedal Fab..Macht es Schnell!

hahaha...funny, Brad. :P.

Shaffer, I drove for about 2 months without a gas pedal; just using the rod. I didn't have an issue with it. then I put the plastic pedal on. and...well...boredom compelled me to do this. haha.

I'll prolly try again, and make a bit beefier, more industrial, if you will. and skip the artwork this time...haha.

thanks for the opinions all. It helps me get a feel for the rest of the world. keep 'em comin'!

Re: Go-Pedal Fab..Macht es Schnell!

well guys, after driving with the above posted gas pedal today...i realized it was pretty much a total flop. which is a good thing, considering common sense shows it was a bit excessive...

so. today, i made another one.

same deal. diamond plate. but this time riveted to a molded rubber/steel gas pedal.

it looks alot better than the first one, since it looks plainer, which is better in this case, and stays on the nubs.

and thats where she is now..

...not quite as lame as before, eh?

Re: Go-Pedal Fab..Macht es Schnell!

Did you try flipping the first one over? Then, you`d have a flip-flop gas peddle.
That looks nice.I wouldn`t hack up a good Chuck either.

Like Brad said, looks good - on your truck.

Are you German or just speak it or something?

Shane -

The P.O. is responsible for that...anti-sway/trailer brake mickey mouse wiring job..yeahh...But, then again, my wiring isn't the greatest either.

DLB -

I like it, in my truck. haha. And yes, I'm German through heritage, but also took 5 years of it in high school. So, it's fun to throw back to it a little bit once in a while.

Thanks all. it's working out pretty well. and it's different, which is what I wanted....

....in my truck.

I think it'd be pretty cool to weld a few rustang emblems together to make a slow pedal to go along with it.

Were you on one of those "extended" plans for high school

No sir, I wasn't. haha. I should have clarified, it was 5 semesters of German, which my school considered each semester to be a "year".

No worries...despite my goony gas pedal...i'm not quite THAT dumb...:P.

I had 6 semesters of German in High School but don't remember much other than how to count, a few colors and a few beverages.
