Dag Blasted A/c!!!
Well here it is getting warm again and my a/c which I spent way to much on last summer is not working again. It seems to have leaked down while I had the engine out and was rebuilding it. I am so tired of putting freon in this da!! thing and it not cooling the truck down to a comfortable temp that I am about ready to set a match to it. Does anybody have any any suggestions beside replacing it with a V.A. system.?

Re: Dag Blasted A/c!!!
You are going to have to find the leak and repair it.Check all the fittings with soap and look for bubbles if you dont have a propper leak detector. It doesn't take much of a leak to make a car a/c unit go low or flat.I would look for any oil on the fittings thats more than likely where the leak will be. Refrigerant and the oil are missable meaning the oil travels with the gas, oil will mean there is a leak.

Re: Dag Blasted A/c!!!
I personally HATE doing this, but it may be best to take it to a qualified shop (one that does A/C only) and have them do a leak test. After that you can fix it! Then I'd recommend taking it back to have it evacuated and filled. I took mine to an A/C only shop after I finished the VA kit, they evacuated it, then filled it, no leaks and it's friggin cold.

Re: Dag Blasted A/c!!!
Last summer I took it in and the shop put the die in it to find the leak. We found that it was leaking from around the pressure switch. After backing it off a little it quit leaking but it never seemed to cool very good unless there was humidity in the air in the morning after the sun was up and getting hot outside it would quit cooling.
I have looked for the visible oil leaks but don't see any anywhere in the system. I guess I will take it back again to try and find it again. Thanks for the help guys. 67 if your'e ever in columbia let me know. maybe we could get together and talk trucks.

Re: Dag Blasted A/c!!!
Check the lines that go under or on the side of the battery. There's a fitting where the line goes through the firwall that can be hard to see. Also, the line itself is crimped and the crimp is hard to see.

Re: Dag Blasted A/c!!!
Just had my a/c on my 96 Impala SS recharged because it had a leak-this was the second time for the same problem-turns out the shraider valve ( like the one's in the wheels etc) was made of plastic and breaks very easy-our trucks are probably metal but they still can leak......my 2 cents!!
