Converting A D60 Pinion Yoke To U Bolt
My 1977 Chevy motor home has the strap style pinion yoke on the D60. It is loose after tightening the straps. So i got a new strap kit and its still loose. What do i need to do to convert it to the ubolt style. Anybody ever done this? Is there a kit with a new yoke? Can i just drill out the old one?
My motor home is not a 4x4, but D60 are common in 4x4's, so thats why i asked here.

Re: Converting A D60 Pinion Yoke To U Bolt
I think you will have to change yokes. Here are a few links that I found on this issue of converting from straps to u-bolts.
http://coastdriveline.com/DrivelineParts.htm http://www.jimsautoparts.com/rearend_parts.htm http://www.advanceoffroadaccessories.com/yokes.html This one looks like doesnt need new yoke if you have 29 spline yoke: http://nextgenparts.net/serverfiles/...I80862&Style=2

Re: Converting A D60 Pinion Yoke To U Bolt
I'm pretty sure people have done it by milling a flat on the rear of the yoke around each hole, so the nuts can seat flush.

I know that some of those yokes are too thin to drill through and make the u-bolts fit. Edit for clarity: It's where bolt used to thread in... makes the walls a bit thin to handle the torque, on some of them. Last edited by FormerMember; 04-04-2008 at 05:53 PM. |
