Changing from 6 Lug to 5 Lug. Will it fit?

I'm interested in changing the rear 6 lug axle to a 5 lug axle. The 6 lug is from a 1969 GMC Truck (originally leafs but now coils) and the 5 lug is from a 1967 Chevy Truck with coils.

Will this 5 lug rear end fit on my 69? Or is it....Too Short. Too long. OR Just Right. Thanks, Guys and Gals for your input. Harry

The 5 lug is from a 67? If so it isn't factory.

True. What is the best way to check for fit? Where do I measure from on my 6 lug and then how do I compare the two? Thanks, Harry

Are you just swapping the whole rearend... or axle shafts?
The former will work, the latter will not.

Andy, thinking about the whole rear end. Existing 6 lug rear end is from the leaf spring setup. As stated, I've swapped over to trailing arms.

Re: Changing from 6 Lug to 5 Lug. Will it fit?

Measure the length of both axles from the square 4-bolt provision to square 4-bolt provision. If they are the same, just swap the axles. If one of them is between 1"-2" longer, then the axles are probably going to each by ~1/4" too long.

I have a 5-lug '71 (leaf spring) rear up here with a POSI (G80) rear if you need it. I'd need to re-install the axles into the tube, but it's not that hard to tend to. It's currently gathering dust in the corner.

(You'd need to pick it up, though)
