hard to find or rare parts?

what are some of the less common, rare, valuable, ect options and parts for these 73 and up style trucks? i have a couple 67-72's and am pretty farmiliar with those, but have been helping a friend work on his 86 K10 and just want to learn more about this generation truck.

i know tach dash's are hard to find, but what else is uncommon? did they ever put bucket seats in these years, in trucks anyway? he wants to put some 73 K/5 blazer seats and a console in his and i was just wondering if they were ever factory equipped.

thanks!

Re: hard to find or rare parts?

The lowest production major option would have been the factory buckets(73-77 low back and 78-81 hi back) and the factory tach (73-81).Both of these were discontinued in 1982 in the trucks. The lowest production models were the special editions (gmc indy, gentleman jim, street coupe;chevy sport, etc);again these only were offered until 81.Canadians also had a Wrangler edition;these are still common in Canada.

Re: hard to find or rare parts?

I would say that flip down dome light/cargo light would have to be one of the rarest options...more so than buckets and tach dash. The bedside tool box is also really rare..I believe only available on 73-74 models. Wood fleetside beds are also fairly uncommon.

77 trucks have both low and high back seats...early 77's having the low backs, later 77's having the high backs.

Re: hard to find or rare parts?

Another thing to look for would be the instrument clusters with the combo tach/fuel gauge and either a vacuum gauge or air pressure gauge in the lower left corner. But these were only availible in the much larger C60 - C70 trucks. They'll look like this......
with vac gauge

with pressure gauge

My 84 SWB was originally sold in Canada and has a three blade fan... Everyone I have shown it to is amazed that it would actually run. Is this fairly common, other than in Oklahoma heat?

I have a 3 blade fan on my '80. I have no complaints on it.

Are we talking rare or desirable and rare? What was offered or what is left?

AM/FM/CB radios were fairly rare
Trim with ochre (yellow) inlay (2 years only)
Woodgrain exterior
