Headers?

Im looking into getting a set of headers for my 65' it has a small block,and i would like to try and fit full length headers. What works best for these trucks? thanks

I just finished installing headers that said they were for a Monte Carlo in my truck (it has a 283), and they went in well. I'm monkeying around with the clutch Z-bar, but I think I have it worked out now. I had to remove the big canister oil filter while installing the driver' side, just during installation. Passenger side, I removed the starter to make room, and it fits with a bit of room once everything is snugged down. The headers terminate just behind the tranny cross member. I don't have pics yet, sorry.

Hedman 69260- $149 at Summit. Highly recommended... I have used them for many years. You must remove the starter and z-bar to get them installed. Z bar does not need modification when it is reinstalled. They do not hang too low.

Hedman 69268 is the number for heavy duty ceramic version.

I love those siamese runners on the tpi, where did you get them?

I have been looking at headers too. Did those come with the O2 bung also? Or did you add that on?

I've been looking in to these headman headers 69648. There made for a small block to jeep engine swap but headman's web site says they'll fit our trucks. Sort of in between a true shortie and the full length version above. My truck is bagged and I'm concerned the 69260 may drag when I air out the bags.

Has anybody tried a set of these?

I use Hookers on my 64 that are made specifically for this application. No fit issues with the clutch linkage at all, other than trimming a little excess length off of the threaded rod connecting the z-bar to the fork.

Those are the same headers I have...they work great!

Here's how the headers Joe and I use come out down below. It isn't much below the crossmember at all. (My truck is lowered about four or five inches in front.) I hope someone else will post info on headers that have worked for them.

not trying to hijack the thread but has anyone used the hedman 69260 in a column shift truck. If not what headers would fit.

IMO its not a hijacking at all, but a contribution. I used the 69260 on both my floor shift and when my truck was a three-on-the-tree. No problems.

I haven't tried them of course but they look like a very good bet for an automatic tranny. The sweep back might get into conflict with the z-bar on manual setups. Post up your findings if you go with them.

Cool Flowtech Headers

Hey Guys,

I wanted to lay down a post on this thread for those who search the forum in the future.

I just installed a set of Flowtech 11500 headers on my 66 Chevy C10. My truck has a 283 V8 with a bolt action 3 speed transmission. Summit Racing sells the headers for $109 + shipping but I actually found them at my local Vato Zone for $107 flat. (ie, nice price). The headers bolted up very nicely but the Clutch Linkage Z-Bar Must be modified before it can be reattached. This is done by cutting the clutch rod lug off of the z-bar and welding it back on about 3/4 of an inch to the engine side.

You will also need an aftermarket alternator mounting bracket, if you install most any brand of headers. This is a 2 piece deal that can also be found on Summit's website.

Brawley.... Check out this link This Link I just posted the same question not long ago. I also got the flowtechs mentioned above. I have powerglide auto so no problems with the zbar. Fit nice. The link has a video of how they sound. I do like the ceramic coated ones that hoser and billydon have, but i was too impatient to wait for shipping and too cheap to fork out the extra $50 + shipping.

In light of previous two posts, I would have to conclude that Flowtech 1150 (pictured) is good for automatic but has complications with stick shift.

Flowtech Headers

Billydonn,
I think you are correct. The modification to the Z-bar was definitely required for my 3 on the tree V8. The lug that pushes the clutch fork rod hits the #7 header tube. I saw an earlier post on this forum from the past where a guy said that it fit fine but I sure don't see how.
I have a png file explaining the required modifications if you want me to send it to you. (evidently, it would not upload to this forum)

I spent about a hundred bucks on the Flowtec's but decided to wrap them with heat shielding header tape. It took 2 rolls at 50 bucks per roll. I should have gotten the ceramic coated version but have to say the tape looks very cool on it. I looked at the pics of your truck. As you can see, mine is probably it's 1 yr newer twin sister that you started with (ugly porta potty green). I recently decided that I will repaint it flat black and chrome the front out.....so I found it odd when I saw your pics. Yours looks sweet.
One more oddity. The cat that I bought mine from here in Austin was named Lewis Salizar.
