Quadrajet decode
I'm frustrated with the '75 Qjet in my '72. I bought it off Ebay a while back, and I've never been happy with it. I made the mistake of putting early rods in it to try to get back to stock configuration for a '72 402. The choke doesn't work properly, etc.
Anyway, I bought 2 Qjets today for parts. One is from a '68 396, and it's trash. I removed the rods, jets, and some of the linkage parts. The 2nd is an excellent carb, but I'm not sure of its origin. Unlike most Qjets I've seen, there is no 7 digit code on the driver's side of the carb. There is a 7 digit number in a small circle on each major part (air horn, body, and baseplate). They don't jive with each other (7037360 horn, 7038486 body, and 7037174 base), and they don't correspond to a Qjet according to the decoder. The numbers on the usual spot are 29231 1609. A few other oddities: * there are 2 small vacuum ports on the back of the carb instead of 1 large fitting for a booster * it appears to have a somewhat factory looking manual choke. the fast idle cam is large and plastic Any ideas on what the original vehicle & engine were? Is there a kit to use a manual choke, or can I convert this one to divorced choke? thx, eric
