remote tranny cooler, worth it or not?

so my 81 has a tranny line problem. who ever pulled the tranny last just hacked up and spliced back together the hard lines. so now they leak every where. so my buddy's dad owns and runs a tranny shop and said he could custom bend what ever i wanted in order to get my tranny not to leak and also hide some of the lines in order to clean up my engine bay a bit. so now hears my question. should i just use the stock tranny cooler or should i go with something like this Amazon.com: Flex-a-lite 4190 Remote 6-Pass... so i can totally hide all the tranny lines and also maybe have my tranny run a little bit cooler. thanks for the help guys

Worth every penny to have a tranny live a long life. I installed one in both my vehicles. I used steel braided lines to replace the hard lines. Look good and easy to route. Check my photo albums for pictures.

hmm never thoguht about steel braided line. they handle the psi and vibrations without a problem? that would even save me some shop time at my buggies garage since i would just have to screw in and mount the braided line.

what cooler did you use

That fits behind the grill with plenty of room on my 77, not sure about an 80's truck though. Thats the thickest stacked plate cooler I've found. Most are 3/4 of an inch thick, that one is twice that at 1.5 inches.

My Jimmy cooler is aluminum. My truck is coated black but probably aluminum. I used B&M for my truck. My Jimmy has Imperial by Advance Auto.

does every one mount the back up towards the front or does any one mount them on the frame kinda hidden. i would more then likely be using a cooler with a fan so i wouldn't have to be right up front.

if mounting on the frame i would say a fan would be the only way to go.

With the fan I have seen them mounted under the bed area of the truck tucked in between the cross sills. I don't have a picture tho...

I have one of those black high efficiency coolers on my 83 El Camino that also has a fan on it. I have a racing aluminum Griffin radiator that doesnt have a trans cooler in it so I had no choice. I also have one hooked up on my power steering system without a fan.

Thinking about that flex a lite. Just trying figure out a better place to mount it, to keep it away from dirt and water and also a better way to mount it.

You should run that with the stock cooler but I wouldn't run just the remote cooler by itself. I put an aux cooler on all my automatic vehicles.

If I have to run lines up to the front I'm not gonna a remote. I was trying to hide the lines if I can't hide em ill just run the stocky.
