Re: 4 spd swap

I have my whole truck torn apart right now, but I have the same exact set up, and I will tell you it does fit, but barely. Get the Hurst shifter and installation kit. They make one that is meant for the application. It's expensive but well worth it.

I also have a z bar. it took some slight tweaking but I got it to work.

Re: 4 spd swap

I've got an M21 in my truck too. Here's a picture, it kind of shows you where the shifter placement is. The trans is in neutral in this pic. Second and fourth gear puts the shifter about an inch in front of the bench seat, just right! I'm using Hurst stick # 5384331. I've also got a Z-bar setup, I'm not a fan of hydraulic clutches......I have nothing but trouble with the hydro clutch in my camaro.

Re: 4 spd swap

Im glad I have buckets in my 78 with the shifter where it is. Not sure how it would fit with a stock bench but they [hurst] do have different sticks to custom fit if needed. I used an indy universal hurst shifter.

I hope to convert mine to a manual trans some day and can't wait to see your swap. Good luck
