Something I've been working on...
Lately all I seem to be doing is getting the bugs out of my daily driver, so it felt good to get this assembled. Just wanted to share it and hopefully soon I'll get it in.

1972 Gmc Custom swb intercooled twin turbo 327 10.5-1 and 12 lbs of boost, Nodular iron case super t-10 4 speed with a blowproof bellhousing, 12 bolt eaton posi soon to have moser axles. 1998 Honda CR250 fully ported, case matched, milled head, vortexed carb and revalved suspension but don't forget the woody woodpecker decal kit! Things I've broken so far: 12 bolt diff saginaw 4 spd many, many pieces Aluminum case Super t-10 4 spd |

Man, that thing is going to be wicked! My daily driver is a twin turbo six cylinder and it makes me grin when that thing spools up. I can't imagine having those turbos sitting on an eight.

It looks alot meaner than it really is. The motor is actually a 305 I've had sitting around for a while now. There is a really big learning curve with turbos, especially on the tune, and I didn't want to blow up my good smallblock while I was learning. The internals are rebuilt but just stock stuff with the exception of a cam upgarde. Were not talking much, like an rv cam(i couldn't find the number on it, okay I didn't look hard). The turbos are middle of the road for performance. With the stock internals i.e. cast pistons I have to show restraint on the boost control. I'll start with 3 pounds and work my way up to 10. The desktop dyno says that a stock 305 with 10psi should make 400-450 hp at the flywheel. I know there are easier ways to make 400 horse but I am taking this on because I would like to learn a bit about it and build an engine for it down the road.
As for anyone wanting to do anything like this, read, read, read before you start buying stuff, and stay away from ebay turbos. I too was duped by the ebay seller. Get informed and then make a decision.

Sounds like a fun learning project. Good luck with it. Might make an unusual build thread but I'd consider it if you've documented things so far by chance.

Ok, finally an update. The headers I had originally didn't fit, even after a little chop cut rebuild, it would have been hard to run the exhaust thru the master cylinder. I found a set of headers for a firebird, pretty much the only ones other than the first set I had that someone manufactures for a sbc. Everything else is custom.
It's certainly not like TV. It's fun when the big stuff goes in like the headers and turbos. But when you spend half a day making a bracket to remount the wastegate control it sucks. Here are some pics. I don't really know what order they will come out in. But there is one shot of my downpipes. The guys who whip this stuff off, my hat is off to you, it took me nine hours. The one for my drivers side is a work of art. It goes up, and out around the steering shaft, back behind the z bar, follows the cab floor down, and hoops to go around the clutch fork, and then back the other way to meet the collector. I had to lose the inner fender, but I'll just notch one out and put it back in for the splashes.

Turbos suck...I mean blow...in a good way.I love the sounds they make.Intercoolers are cool(duh?),but sure can be a challenge to plumb.Any thoughts on one in the future?Having the turbos up front should help them run a tad cooler.You could easily get air across them,too.

I have an intercooler for it but decided not to use it. I am only running 8 pounds of boost currently so you can get away without an intercooler. My air filters will end up right behind the front bumper so the intercooler won't fit there. I have to run a pusher fan so it can't go in front of the rad either. The other reason is the theory behind it. Mind you some of it is based on people's opinions but an intercooler is only good up to so much boost, like 15psi. Anything more requires water/meth injection. Without an intercooler it will most likely start to detonate at 10-12 psi. My plan was to run water injection anyway. I'm not sure how high I will go, but I have no doubt that I'm going to break something!
