Gear ID stamp on axle

I have a 12-bolt rear and was told there was a stamp on the passenger side of the axle that will ID my gear as it came from the factory. Im having trouble finding the stamp, can anyone tell me where it is and what the letters stand for?

There is a stamping on the ring gear that will tell you the ratio, It'll say like 14:43. you divide the second number by the first, and that will give you your ratio.

43/14=3.07

Re: Gear ID stamp on axle

The number is stamped on tube. It angled towards the rear window. Should be a # digit
number in a 70.

TDA=308
RHA=308
THA=308
RHC=373
THC=373

HA=373 IN A 69 AND OLDER
HB OR HC = 308 AND OLDER I THINK

Some of these or probably wrong, i do not have my book with me. There is a lot of different numbers. I think a B, X and others or locking rear ends. That is the last digit that is different. I have a book if you need help with it.

That is true, if you know your truck is 100% as from the factory original. I'd go by the ring gear, no telling what third member someone has stuffed in the pumpkin

Re: Gear ID stamp on axle

Well, I went over to David's and we found that stamp. It says I've got a 3.07 rear from the factory. So unless it's been changed, that's what I've got and I was told it was a 4.11 from the prev. owner which I could go along with seeing as I was pulling 3k rpm at 65 w/ my 31" tires.

This site http://www.americanclassic.com/paint.htm?p1=axles says it's a 3.07.
