Re: Rodent help

mice dont like moth balls. They also dont like those dryer sheets you toss in with your laundry. You can stick those in your car. Ive used both and both worked. Moth balls make your ride stink though.

Re: Rodent help

Irish Spring.

Get some Cool Whip containers or similar device and whittle chips of Irish Spring into the dish.
Place the dish in the cab. Maybe one under the hood.

In my 2002 bass boat I've done this every winter and have had NO mouse damage. Of course in the boat you need 7 or 8 containers to get one in each compartment.

I use dryer sheets in my cars, under the hood too... Didn't have any problems this winter.

Re: Rodent help

I use Irish Spring like mrein3 mentioned. In addition on these trucks it is a good idea to put a screen under the cowl as that is where the mice get in, (keeps the leaves out too).

And it will improve your hand/eye coordination.

Seriously. If one of those other ideas work, please post it. I have a similar problem.
But I think I may try some of those other suggestions in the mean time; just for kicks & giggles.
What do I have to lose?

Jack Russell Terriers! A cat kills mice because it wants a toy, and it finally breaks the toy. A jack kills mice because it enjoys killing! When they run out of mice they will then move up the food chain, snakes, possums, skunks, badger. I will never forget my first jack. She went out and found a huge nest of mice. She ate all of the babies alive! A little bit later she was laying in the sun and you could see the mice crawling around inside of her! It seriously looked like a scene from Alien! After she was here for a while, we ran out of mice.

Re: Rodent help

Take a regular mouse trap, bait it with peanut butter and a pretzel, or just chunky pb. It works really well. One winter I caugh 30 some mice in less than 20 days using the same system. They just can't move fast enough once they get hung up in the pb.

Re: Rodent help

There is a product called fresh cab the farmers around here use it to keep mice out of there farm trucks it works good and it smells better then moth balls. I use it on my snowmobiles I throw some under the hood and it keeps them out, there parked out side year round.

i agree jack russels can be some bada$$ dogs, and ive seen them kill possums, and coons... but i dont think they would do to well against a badger, unless its sick or almost dead.

ive shot a badger in the skull with a .22 and it didnt even phase it.

I know a guy in Tennessee that uses his jacks to hunt badgers. He sends them down the holes after them. 2, 6 month old puppies I got from him got a snake a few years ago. This snake was a bit over 6' long. It took them 2 hours but they killed it. Don't under estamate a jack! They are smart, determined, and enjoy what they do!

Re: Rodent help

Don't know about mice, but I had my wife's new Cadillac (in 1986) sustain about $ 2000 worth of damage from "all those cute little chipmunks" as my she described them.

Underhood insulation blanket, full wiring harness, AC hoses, CV joint boots, etc, etc --- everything rubber or plastic that they could get to, basically.

Thanks State Farm !!! It was covered, believe it or not.

The Cadillac store head-mechanic suggested "kill your cat & get D-Con" ---- several of the small trays were left up on top of the engine & fender wells, around the carport edges, etc. He said they eat it & carry more of it off back to the nest to share & eat later.

After several full packages (of 6 trays each !!!!) were eaten, there just weren't any more chipmunks around. We've kept D-con up under the hood of every vehicle we've had ever since then.

The worthless cat is still here though, after more than 20 years later, even. Should have fed the cat some D-con, too, I guess. That damn cat will probably outlive me.

The Only Way

My family and I have at least $100,000 in cars in storage. We have tried EVERYTHING! The best thing you can buy is bait bars and wire or zip tie them inside the car and trunk. They cant carry it off and store it, they have to eat it where it is at. THE BEST BY FAR. Any questions just ask

You need to watch out for dogs, they like to eat those bars too. A neighbor almost lost a dog from those bars.

Re: Rodent help

I learned the hard way after mice trashed my glovebox and heater box. I later placed 4 moustraps in the cab....got about 5 or 6 of 'em that way. Of course, this was AFTER they did their damage. The tip about the peanut butter is a good one, worked for me.
