Angry Military Thieves

Well, went to work on my blazer today that was stored at the hoby shop on base. Pushed it into the garage and took the cover off the engine. My buddie calls to me and asks why the hell I left the valve covers off? I come over and look and lo and behold my radiator hose is cut, Thunder series 800 cfm polished carb, MSD billet ditributor, edelbrock elite polished valve covers, Coil, 6al ingnition box, MSD HP wires, ece drop spindles, my toolbox and I'm sure other things yet to be discovered, are all gone. My intake bolts are gone and the corners all dinged up where they tried to pry it off.

I am so mad right now!! A locked gated enclosure on a military base and my S#!t is stolen by another military member. So much for Honor, Courage, and Commitment. We would have had it running today too. Of course I hadn't put full coverage on it because it's not running and I signed a waiver with the shop that they are not responsible for damages. We found the footprints where they guy jumped over the fence but CID said there isn't much they can do.

Between the engine, trans, and miscellaneous parts, I've spent close to 10K on this thing in the last few months and now this. @$#%$#

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

Even in the military there are some weeds. I had a similar experience. Hope you still get it going and some retribution.

Anymore, it's just like on the streets. If someone wants it, no matter what precautions you've taken, they'll get it. Easier to steal it than save and buy it like you did. Anyhow, from one vet to another, thank you for your service to our country.

Well, you know it's got to be someone on base, start asking around, hunt them down, and then KILL'EM!! Bastards like that piss me off. Yes, unfortunately there are assholes like that in the services.

Start searching for the parts on your local craigslist. I've seen many stories about people catching the thieves this way.

Re: Military Thieves F*&$K!!!

I would check ebay for your parts and hopefully you kept your receipts. I cant believe that could ever happen at a military base, I thought someone would not be that dumb to steal parts or anything in that matter at a base with weapons and all sorts of things there.

Re: Military Thieves F*&$K!!!

Pretty sure it wasn't an inside job. We found footprints in a back area where there shouldn't be any and a couple of buckets stacked up next to the fence with the same footprints on them. If it was the civilians, they would have just walked out the front. Whoever it was knew what they wanted and grabbed it. The polished alternator was still there and that would have taken less time than the carb or distributor to take.

I've got a couple ideas about who it was that I'll check out on Monday. There's a young kid that has to of our era trucks. One he drives and one he's working on. He's the only one I know for sure got a good look at my new motor. We'll see what happens. Just re-ordered $1500 of replacement parts.

Re: Military Thieves F*&$K!!!

Unfortunately, I don't have receipts for any of the stuff off the engine. I paid cash for the complete motor from a board member here. So, I'm screwed on the valve covers, distributor, carb, and coil. Also, my toolbox I've had for a while but had a couple hundred dollars of tools in. I'm going to file a claim with AMEX for the 6al, drop spindles, and plug wires. I'm going to talk to legal, base SgtMaj and MCCS Monday and see if they'll pay anything. I've seen people get reimbursed for vandalism and other damages to vehicles on base before. Since MCCS owns the facility though, it may be different.

Re: Military Thieves F*&$K!!!

I agree it had to be an inside job. no one is gonna jump a fence just to go looking and stumble into that. It had to be someone that knew what was there and what to grab. I wish you the best of luck at finding the person responsible. I also wish you the best of luck controlling your temper when you do find them!

Re: Military Thieves F*&$K!!!

I feel your pain. When I was stationed at Ft. Carson-I was there between June of '77 and June of '78, I had a '63 C-10. I was changing the transmission and since it was going to take me a few days, I parked it in the space next to the guard tower that was in the middle of our Battlion parking lot. Sure enough, some lowlife broke out one of the windows and stole all my tools. I called the MP's as soon as I found out and they took a report. I kept calling the JAG lawyer, and finally they told me that no matter what, a POV (personal owned vehicle) was NOT a secure place to store anything of value. Sorry bud. Wish we could care. They wouldn't even question the guys that were on 'guard duty' during the time of the crime. After that, whenever it was my time to be on guard duty, I would keep myself awake for at least 24 hours before hand, and as soon as I was at my post, I would lay down and fall so asleep that they would have to shake me awake.I got in a lot of trouble for doing that, but, sorry bud, wish I could care. Go ahead and give me a article 15, I ain't got no rank to take and you have to feed me.

First of all, thank you for your service.

Secondly, that can't possibly suck enough.

Thirdly, I hope you find whoever did it before anybody else does.
I don't think there is any thing better than "street" justice.
Just my .02.

Good luck, and thank you again.

Re: Military Thieves F*&$K!!!

that really blows man sorry to hear
my older brother was ripped off in a similar fasion, when he first joined the marines he still had his 71 swb that he spent all of high school working on along side of his 71 gto judge
but he was stationed out in cali and he went work go work on his truck one day in the shop he was just gonna go contiune some body work needing to get done and he noticed his front end was up higer then normal
turns out someone on base had a fancy for his beloved 427 that he spent a realy long time to find and rebuild and that person spent the time and effort to pull the engine and tranny and run off with them and another guys chery picker
lukkily after about 5 weeks another marine brought his old car to the shop to work on and my brother was lookin at it and asked bout the engine the guy refused to show him it so he got an mp buddy to force him a look at it and sure enough it was my bros engine
i hope ur as lukky as my brother was
